Where did you find the AXM100?
Two cameras I'd love to get:
The Single 8 AXM100 - this one runs at 20 fps, right? and
The S8 Zeiss Ikon Moviflex older one that runs at 18fps only.

I don't appear to have pissed off anyone recently... It stikes me that if people spent less money buying and hording cameras they might have enough cash left to stop whinging about the price of Small Format. And of course been able to buy more K40 then it might not have been discontinued.

Just another dirty(literally!) and cheap find at a flea market in a small rural town. Capstan was heavily stuck but now it runs nicely. 1.2/11mm fixed focus and 20fps, right.

Perhaps, but like gasoline and big SUVs, ultimately, I fundamentally respect the people's right to buy what they want in whatever quantity they desire. Now, sure, I laugh a t both the camera guys with cameras that no longer have film for them just as I do the SUV drivers and $3 gasoline. Ultimately, moods change and people follow accordingly.

But let's face it, Kodak WANTED to cancel Kodachrome in super 8 and probably found it a "nuisance" to keep around. The other stocks in super 8 are under ZERO obligation to be processed by Kodak so they stay. And I expect to see more super 8 stocks from them.

But Kodachrome was their achilles heel as they were OBILGATED to process it in all countries but the USA and they finally had enough "gumption" to cancel it. You could say that only Europeans/Canadians had to buy more to help keep it around, but in the end even these actions would have made little sense in the board room at Kodak dot com.

In the same sense that back in 1973 people should have kept buying those wonderful american muscle cars that got 9mpg so that the manufacturers would not introduce the shit econoboxes they did in the mid 70's through the late 90's...again, the public made little noise about it...

So, get out and BUY A CAMERA and/or BUY SOME FILM and/or BUY SOME PROCESSING!!!

or just shoot the film and throw it away for a good sake if u cant afford the processing. alternatively freeze it for as long as it takes your account to recover and you may recapture surprising and bleach memories of the past when y got the money some time in the future.

tempting?

while i tend to agree, in my case i bought all my gear in a time when i could afford both cameras and subscriptions as well as lots of travel, good food and designer clothes. i.e. when filmmaking was still just my hobby. damn those stupid career choices... ;-)

this point of view always sets me wondering. would it be ok if people threw their trash in your back yard too? you do realize that these people actually *burn* their gasoline and dump it on you? i don't mind them *buying* the stuff either...

Um, OK, I have no idea what you are trying to say (lost in translation).

My point was: people can hoard cameras all they want and should not feel guilty about it. Ultimately, market economics will make hoarding cameras less desirable (unless you are Cecil Rhodes) and you will be heavily motivated to sell to make some money. Just like SUVs: people get off on having HUGE vehicles but ultimately, higher gas prices make people switch their desire to something else...

Your point was?

um, ok, maybe you should try harder? i'm not arguing against your point, just saying that the problem with people buying lots of gasoline isn't that they *buy* it but that they *burn* it, which is not mainly their problem but yours.

"And of course been able to buy more K40 then it might not have been discontinued."

Yeah? Please explain why K40 was discontinued when it outsold the other S8 stocks by a huge margin. As Super8man said, Kodak *wanted* to get rid of it. Twice as many sales wouldn't have made any difference, because it's still a drop in the bucket for Kodak.

Of course people have a right to drive whatever they want - they're stupid for wasting so much money on vehicles that get 10-15 mpg, but that's their choice. An increase in pollution is not ideal, but certainly better than legislation restricting freedom to drive what you want

Oooh other obsolete stuff

Sanyo Betamax VCR (1984)
Ferguson 3V35 VHS VCR (1984)
Sony CV3600 open reel B&W VTR (circa 1973)
Decca 55 grammophone

hey, it's not me who has my political point of view in my .sig. :-) the environment is an extremely important issue in the "self ownership" discussion. if your car pollutes my lake we have a problem, don't you think?

and you honestly think these are the only options? open your eyes, or at least freshen up your rhetorics a little.

Thanks, Mattias. I had forgotten that foreigners always understand the complex problems Americans face more clearly than we Americans do.
