The Minolta Zoom 8 isn't a windup, it's battery powered. The mechanism works fine--I'm just looking for someone to do a CLA on it. As there are people who do this for old still cameras I assume someone out there has had this done for a cine camera.

Good to know about the foam, though.

Service/CLA for a Minolta Zoom 8? Annnd...Canon Eight

Hi folks:

A while back I got a Minolta Zoom 8 reflex camera for something like 5 bucks and slung it in the back of the closet. I'd like to start using it now--it does run, but I the foam seals look like they need to be redone and the reflex focusing is hard to use (there's a center-spot/ring, with ...

parallax in a Canon Eight

I was just getting misty-eyed thinking about my first camera (when I was, I think, about 13), a Canon Eight, which, as I recall, was a beautiful little thing--not reflex, though.

I don't think at the time I knew what parallax error was--and now I ...

1/2 frame 35mm still camera / 35mm animation

This idea was floated a while back, shooting 35mm animation with an old half-frame 35mm still camera...the idea being, I gather, that the half-frame format matches the frame of a 35mm movie camera, correct? So one could get a few seconds of animation on a standard roll of 35mm still film.

Did ...

Er--I dunno that I'm so desperate to see it that I'd travel to Pennsylvania to rent it from Rick's. Good for them that they have it, though!

I'll try emailing the guy who runs the Crimewave site and see if he knows where to buy one. I'll report back...

If you are talking about the "Crimewave" Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell did, it is only available used or bootleg. Talking to Bruce Campbell once, he refered to it as "Slimewave", and he said that they bought up the rights and they don't plan of re-releasing it. I've seen it, and can say that I was ...

Have you noticed much difference in shooting animation with a pin-registered movement rather than a pull-down claw? I've only ever used the latter in 16mm, I suppose I might be missing something.

Oh good lord that's cool. Three questions:

-was it terribly expensive, as far as old 35mm cameras go?

-why 'traffic camera'? What does that mean?

-you think something like this would be suitable for animation? What's the movement like?

Archiving your digital work?

For those of you who finish or store projects on some sort of digital format--how do you plan on archiving your work? I have projects scattered across various hard drives, cd-r's, and dvd-r's, but this hardly seems like a long-term solution to me. Has anyone arrived at something you find ...

Could one of the battery-powered regular 8 models theoretically work with Matthias's synching software? I'm still slightly unclear about this.

I'd be very interested in seeing a list. Ideally I'd like a camera with ttl focusing and manual aperture/shutter speed adjustment. Single-frame might possibly be useful, although I admit I do almost all of my animation these days with a computer (sadly).

reflex regular 8?

I tried using hte search function on this and didn't turn up anything, so forgive me if this has been addressed before...

Excluding the obvious H8 reflex--I know some of the Bolex regular 8 cameras have those Som Berthiot zooms on them, but do those allow for through-the-lens focusing? 'Cause my ...
