parallax in a Canon Eight

Post by schnozzle »

I was just getting misty-eyed thinking about my first camera (when I was, I think, about 13), a Canon Eight, which, as I recall, was a beautiful little thing--not reflex, though.

I don't think at the time I knew what parallax error was--and now I can't remember how close one could get before that became an issue. Anyone happen to know? I'd kind of like to get another one to shoot the regular 8mm opus I'm planning.

Past a meter or two it's not a real issue, IMO. Of course there is always some degree of error; it just depends on how much you will put up with.

You couldn't find a nicer pocket-sized non-reflex prime lensed R-8mm camera! Terrific lenses and the viewfinder has AUTOMATIC PARALLAX CORRECTION! The viewfinder is geared to the lens so that whatever distance you have focused the lens on, the viewfinder is corrected for that distance. The only camera I have ever seen with this feature. The body looks all the world like a Bolex B-8 ripoff, but has its own distinct features like the viewfinder which beats the Bolex hands down. The ones I have all run very smooth and with luck will outlive me. Good luck.
