yup, most likely an intel mac. i'm also a registered developer with apple by the way. do you need a u.s. address, which i think you mentioned you had, to get one or is this a world wide deal? i haven't received any offer from apple.
no it is a hack, about a year ago some kid found an empty g5 case and put a micro (or mini, can't remember) ITX mobo into it. the developers intel macs are just normal PC's for right now.

ok, i just guessed intel because i know emj has one. do you guys remember the hack where somebody put a g4 cube and a 9" lcd screen in a classic case? *that* was cool.

really? the pictures i've seen have shown g5 cases.

Nope. This is the real thing - unmarked "Barracuda" mobo in the correct case.

I seem to remember a few thousand similar comments when Apple moved to PowerPC in the 1990s.
A change like this isn't taken lightly -- I suspect that Apple has discovered that IBM's product roadmap drives straight off a cliff in a year or so, and they don't want to take the trip.
It is one of the developer transition kit Macs. (I know this for a fact.)
The thing to understand about them is that they are ... just a step above prototypes in a way. The final production Macs using the Intel processors will undergo a "Mac-ification" hardware wise -- these are primarily just to test if all your endian code works or not. /-)
The end result of this is that internally the production Intel Macs will be somewhat akin to a very high-end PC -- but only just close enough to such a thing as to *perhaps* allow customers to run Windows apps natively.

I'm not talking the CPU, I'm talking the motherboard used. The barracuda retains classic bottlenecks that limit the modern PC's performance. I was hoping that with the transition, Apple would give Intel the ability to shed this legacy capability (as Mac OS X does not require it just to boot) and instead finally give Intel the top-to-bottom performance monster that its systems are when used in industrial applications. I actually welcome the transition, as Intel is more focused on raw performance at this point in the game, I just fear seeing Apple falling into the same trap that has crippled Wintel machines.

now that i study it i do think you guys are right. but i do think you misunderstood me. i did'nt mean mac mini, i meant Mini-itx as in an intel motherboard. but this is too large to be that.
i did indeed. anyway, how do i get one again? i am a registered developer. i guess i could just call them and ask, but it would be nice to hear from somebody who knows or even have one first.
ok, seems like i need to buy a "select" membership first. that will have to wait since there's no way i can justify spending $500 since that's more than all the donations i've gotten for my software altogether so far...
these are photos of lewis' intel mac. we purchased two of them, one for me and one for lewis. mine is making it's way down here, going first to new mexico, then to california(where it currently sits), and then down here(tomorrow) in cabo, carried on the plane by one of my associates coming down to visit.
it's the real deal ... not a fake
