my first telecine stills
Dear members,
This is my first post. I would like to hear your opinion on my fist S8 film transfer results.
They can be found here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/rusjpnl/S8Telecine1
The telecine setup consists of a projector, a magnifier (130mm diam) and a 1CCD miniDV Sony camcorder with 10x optical zoom (bought in 1998).

The picture quality looks pretty good (the frame line is off in some, as I'm sure you're aware of). Any clips in motion?

Thank you for your comments.
I will upload some clips shortly.
Meanwhile I added some new stills to my gallery. Please have a look.
Do you think I can improve image sharpness and colors by using a 3CCD camcorder? Mine doesn't have even a manual white balance control.
Yeah, no color correction was applied to the stills.

It probably would, but whether your specific film will benefit is not certain. The stills look pretty good but it can always improve.

My questions exactly... first was what kind of lamp is in the projector, and please show us a snap shot, a few phone pix of your setup. Very nice images by the way... nice work...
I don't think changing camcorders at this point will improve it too much, maybe a bit.... it's already pretty good....

A bit of colorcorrection does wonders... Try playing with the colors in your editing program, or in photoshop with the still images.
They look OK for a DIY thingie. Way to go.
Try using a camera where you can lock the white balance. With auto-white the colors go all crazy with old films with twisted colors... Borrow a camera from a friend or something, so you can see the difference before you decide to buy a camera.

Here it is ( http://picasaweb.google.com/rusjpnl/S8Telecine1 ).
Thanks everybody for your opinions!
The camcorder (not on the photo) is on the same line with the projector and the magnifying lens. There is no mirror (I flip the image in after effects).
The lamp is a halogen 12V, 20W - pretty much the same as suggested in http://homepage.mac.com/onsuper8/diytel ... ction.html
Also I am using an opal diffuser glass from Edmund.
What could be the ways for improvement?

Thank you for the advice. Already searched for a good friend with a good camcorder here, but so far found nobody
When you say "look OK" do you see any not extremely expensive and time consuming ways for improvement? I mean within the suggested configuration: projector, lens, camcorder.

Hmmm, don´t know exactly... A better camera and a locked down white balance would give a better image and colors, but it costs money.
But hey, I am spoiled with a Flashscan8 so don´t take my criticism too harshly.
