Movie software to emulate K40 colour

Hi at all.
I'm so sorry if I'm OT with this topic.
I would answer if someone know a software for post-production that can give to the movie (digital8, miniDV etc..) the colours similar at Kodachrome40 :roll:

There is no such thing. The best you can do is an approximation by tweaking colors with genuine K40 footage on the side, then saving the tweaking as a standard option.

i agree a dedicated piece of software doesn't exist, but you can try this. you need secondary color correction. decrease the saturation overall, but increase the saturation of the pure colors, shift the greens towards blue and the reds towards orange. and finally add a slight gaussian blur and increase the contrast.

The most popular software for emulating the loo/color of film stocks is Magic Bullet Look Suite from Red Giant Software. Unfortunately, this will set you back a couple grand, and it really only gives you sort of an approximation. Video color space is far too narrow to accurately reproduce the look of film.

I've noticed trying to make video look like film has a particularly jarring effect on an audience. on some level they know it's "fake," due to the motion, sharp video edges, etc.

Colour correcting can be fun - I think all the advice here is good - here's a quick before and after - maybe others can try on the original too - it's not the best photo to start with (poor quality digital still) - but still a bit can be achieved

Uh, the first one was the original, right? I think it looks a lot better than the corrected version. Just my opinion.

The first was the original - I was trying to make the second look like K40 - have a go - post your results
