Re: Wonderful consumer scanner for Super-8 from the East

Mind the dimensions in the original Japanse website advertisement. It is compact and weighs next to nothing.

The jumpy example can't be right. It is totally unusable and would result in everybody sending back the thing.

Thank you for relocating the forum

Dear Andreas,

Thank you for moving the forum software and databases to a new server and thus getting rid of the zillions of connection errors.

Re: Wonderful consumer scanner for Super-8 from the East

If they already are supplying with instructions in English and French we can safely assume these scanners will show up at all kind of shops real soon. And at lower prices of course when the big markets for this kind of gear start selling them from in-store pallets. Keep an eye out on alibaba.com :) ...

Re: No news from Ferrania is not good.

I don't think allowing or giving away mark-ups of 40-60% to retailers helps any product. It used to make sense; make film convenient and easy to get at any grocery store. In that model there has to be a markup or otherwise why would a store carry it? Plus film was ridiculously cheap to make per uni...

Re: Wonderful consumer scanner for Super-8 from the East

I'll be getting one for sure! Was going to Tokyo at the end of May, but now looks like end of June. Where do you see Retro 8 selling these? There is nothing on the retro8.com pages. The wait is for a HongKong seller. These are a bit fancier with shipping and have no scruples :) Likely it will down ...

Re: No news from Ferrania is not good.

I don't think allowing or giving away mark-ups of 40-60% to retailers helps any product. The business or hobby would best be served by some competition from the East. All of a sudden we get these filmscanners at merely Euro 400. Maybe a new camera materializes soon too. Certainly it will when the ne...

Re: No news from Ferrania is not good.

That is bad news. Getting cozy with Wittner will lead to extremely expensive film. Euro 38 is now the standard price on all super-8. Rounding up to the most expensive one is now practice as they learnt from the 100D discontinuance that people will pay almost anything for a cartridge. We and Ferrania...

All this shot on super-8

Noticed this mentioned as Super-8 production:
http://theaudienceawards.com/films/othe ... 2608xT17a9
Judging by the closing of the film it was shot on S8 :)

Of course I am not the producer :)

Re: Regular 8mm Tri-X is now available

The Fomapan Reversal kit comes with Kalium Permanganate bleach. It detoriates to the air rather quickly. So mix and use need to be close in time. Dichromate bleach hasn't available in ready made kits for years. You would have to get/assemble your own :) Please mind that the immediate danger is in th...

Re: Kodak Digital Team accepting reservations for new S8 cam

I appreciate that Kodak is commiting themselves to Super-8. The enthusiasm for the camera is somewhat less. It is a featurefree filmtransporter exposer without lightmeter and no auto-exposure. The presented lens looks nice visually but is a fix-focus primelens intended for surveilliance purposes. It...

Re: Regular 8mm Tri-X is now available

It is understandable that labs will/can not have a processor ready for a limited quantity of film of one brand. I am not sure how Foma expects the labs to process the ciné film. Do they advice labs on using machines. How they keep/get the grit out off the bleach? On a small scale things work best...

Re: Regular 8mm Tri-X is now available

The bleach is the tricky part on the Fomapan R100. The film has a peculiar anti-halation which must be cleared by the bleach. It results in a gritty substance which muct be washed out fully after the bleach. When not done so the grit may stick to the film and result in speckles on the film. Improper...

Re: New Kodak Super 8 Camera Preview

I believe film cost will come down drastically, in the future...due to new techniques in manufacturing being spurred by 3-d printing and 3-d bio-printing The thing about 3-D printing is that you can create one-offs and short runs efficiently, but if you already have the plastic dies, injection mold...

Re: Regular 8mm Tri-X is now available

I don't see that much brown but it looks bit like improper/insufficient bleaching. I had something like that when I tried to reuse the Permanganate bleach on a second film. Even without that much time between film it was not working that much any longer :( So I stick with single-shot usage when usin...
