By 'transparent' I assume you meant 'still being able to see some beach scene through the letters' - ie the letters are a little 'grey'. Exactly what I meant. An alternative would be to build a makeshift aerial image optical printer and try doing something with that. Then I'd overlay a transparency...

White titles super-imposed on image

I've never done this, so here is how I'm thinking of it:

1) Film about 1 minute of beach footage

2) rewind film

3) set aperture to maximum over-exposure

4) film white letters on black cardboard for a few seconds each title.

Is that how I get the letters to be white instead of transparent?

I should have been more clear on this: I mean what is the disadvantage to pilot sync in relation to crystal sync using same media?

Evan, I leave to Brasil next week, I need to put the recorder in the moving boxes. Thanks for your input (no pun intended). I have sennheiser microphones, I don't remember the model, it's already packed up but maybe M66? Or K66...No idea...it was whatever replaced the Me-80. So I'm placing the order...

Sound recording with Pulse generator

So I stick that into the "remote" jack of my tape recorder and the other end on the fujica zc1000? If I understand correctly, the recorder then tapes 1 pulse every frame and keeps the sound in synch with the picture. If that's the case, what is the disadvantage in this system? I'm possibly getting a...

I think I'll order the new spectra after all.

Robert, what you think about my choice of recorder?

Marantz PMD660 + Single/Super 8

I'm about to order a PMD660. Seems to me most people agree it's better than MiniDisc. I also have two extraneous reasons: 1) I don't have enough money for a Nagra 4.2 2) I need it here TUESDAY and the store has it. I wonder, though, if I will need to have my cameras modified by the film group? I hav...

6 super 8 short films...

This guy from Brasil has made these 6 shorts and put them up for download: http://www.claquette.com.br/super8/curtas_super8.htm The annoying thing is that some of them have endless stupid sponsor logos before the movie. This, I understand, is common practice in Brazil where even short films are rare...

I don't know what happened to the supermag people but the site is still up. It would require someone like Paul Cotto or Roger Evans to pull off such a drastic modification, and I'd need to know how much it would cost first, of course. I did hear they were unable to get film from Kodak for the mag. B...

I tend to agree with this and will take it one step further: I have owned probably 20 different super 8 cameras in my life and shot with all of them. I don't believe there is a person on the face of this earth that can tell if an image was shot with a Leica, Canon, Minolta, Nizo, Beaulieu, etc. I a...

F for Fake

So here's a question for you tinkerers: when you substantially modify a camera (like that other poster who maxed out a P2)...is it STILL the same camera? Here's the scenario. I own a couple ZC-1000 cameras and decide to go ape on one of them. I scrap the Fujinon zoom, add in a top of the line Angeni...

It would be a great idea, but I'm sure A.G. can afford to use all the other non-process paid stocks and get professional telecine etc. He probably wouldn't be bothered about the demise of K40 when the (albeit more expensive) 100D is out there which looks almost identical to it. That would be assumi...
