stills from s8 - how do you do it?

Hi,

I need to make / get made some stills from k40 super 8.

I have a viewer, but no projector & I have a 35mm still camera. And an old 150dpi flatbed scanner to my computer.

BUT, I live in London uk, - so maybe there are shops who can do this for me, not too expensively?

I'd like to do it without having to cut the films, as they are unique.

I've seen filmmakers post stills on this site before - so how do you do it?

And I need to do it by Monday!!

Hi

150 dpi scanner is not enough, and you will only get a little picture.
If your viewer screen is clean and is enough bright, why don't you photograph the viewer screen with tungsten 35mm film (such as kodak supra 100T) and with a tripod. The quality will not be so good, becuase of the texture of the viewer screen, but you can get something interesting. The other solution is to scan the frame at high resolution (3200 dpi), but I am not sure that they will really handle with care your film if you do that in a photo boutique.
Normally the members here, post stills from transfer footage.

And also, if you can get macro dioptrias (in order to achieve +10 or so) you could directly photograph the frame back lighted with a diffue light source table or similar. Good luck.

However i would recomend that you transfer your film and then you have possibility to tkae exellent stills from it. There should be some WP's in London area as well?

If you shoot negative you can make paper copies, like still photography. It can also be done with reversal, but it is a bit more diffucult.

Wow, those are nice! Am I right in thinking that's a collection of the end-splice fragments of other people's films that you get when K40 is developed? Interesting.

Yes that's what those are... I had it in english earlier, but since the facelift i couldn't find nice way to do it in both languages

it's a low-tech operation for now...

am trying photographic enlarger -> thin paper negative -> paper print first.

& then i shall look out for a copier attachment for 35mm still camera.

exciting stuff.

& i love the lost frames.
