Timelapse project 2004

Andreas, is it ok, if I'll transfer my own film (I rather use K25 or Fomapan with Canon DS8 and K40 with Canon 1014 XL-S, total 3 minutes) and just send the mini-dv cassette like I did last time?

Hi there !

I want to participate to this project but I first have questions:
Have we to send processed or unprocessed film? And in this last case, have we to send the cartridge on May 22nd? And where have we to send?

Just wanted to say hello to everyone... I'm quite excited to be involved in this timelapse project, I missed last years...

A few things:

1. I work at a commercial recording studio, and would be happy to help in anyway w/ the audio/music side if needed...

2. The 17-year cicada brood will be emerging 1-million strong per acre in my area right around May 22nd... I should have some very cool stuff to film here! I was already planning to shoot alot anyway! hope they 'arise' in time.

3. Is it correct that I just need to get film developed, or do I need to get the transfer done as well?

So what is the playback speed? 18, 24 or 25. I have a slo-mo shot or two planned and the playback speed is important to know before a shooting speed is picked. I'm assuming 24 but I want to be sure.

One of the techniques listed was "Pixilation". What is this? Where can I learn more about it?

Also, isn't stop motion the same as animation?

Can a rank amatuer with less than 30 minutes filming under his belt participate?

Andreas, I notice that you stated that only time lapse and slow motion could be used for this year's project. This is a pity has some small amount of normal motion footage could add some visual variety to the film. Excluding normal motion filming also means few pans or tilts meaning that just about every shot would likely be a still shot. Though believe me, I'm not a big fan of having heaps of camera movement anyway - just a little bit for variety.

However, I could come up with a little suggestion - which you could either accept or reject. How about only allowing normal motion filming to be used in pans and tilts? In other words, no normal motion still shots, only utilise 24 fps when doing some form of camera movement. This way, people would probably be forced to use time lapse and slow motion for the majority of their shots as camera movements would likely make up a small percentage of the filming anyway. Though I could be wrong about my assumption here.

On the other hand, if my suggestion is a bad idea, then I guess we could simply use slow motion filming to do pans and tilts.

Andreas, I was wondering if 24fps is allowed. I think it would be nice to include a little normal shooting with timelapses and slow motion.

Yes, all films are sent back to the participants. Please see the information page which will be out today (hopefully).
