Hola. Found this list, thought it might be a good spot to talk.
I went to college for video, but always wanted to do filmwork. Finally broke down when I found a Super8 camera at a fleamarket. Vivitar 84. Off of eBay picked up a Bolex B8 and a B&H 200EE cameras as well. Now, the q's:
The Vivitar, when I tried running some test footage, when it said it was finished I looked at the magazine, and there was still film exposed. Is this normal?
The B&H is a 16mm magazine camera that uses a battery for the electronic-eye, is this even worth bothering with?
The Bolex is a double8mm, how is the quality of this film?
new to the list, have q's

Hey, and welcome to.downix wrote:The Vivitar, when I tried running some test footage, when it said it was finished I looked at the magazine, and there was still film exposed. Is this normal?
The film should be imprinted with "exposed" when the carttridge runs out, but there should still be film left visible. The counter on the camera might not work correctly or there's a feet or so left on the film. Try shooting some more and see what hapens, maybe try another cam.
Much better than it was years ago. But are you comparing stocks within a ceartain format or comparing the formats?downix wrote:The Bolex is a double8mm, how is the quality of this film?
Try searching for clips comparing stocks. I'm shure you'll find soime on this site.

Tried that, hasn't moved. And only have one Super8 cam to try withsunrise wrote:Hey, and welcome to.downix wrote:The Vivitar, when I tried running some test footage, when it said it was finished I looked at the magazine, and there was still film exposed. Is this normal?

Comparing the formats. The Double8mm runs a lot smoother than the Super8, that's why I'm asking. And with the Super8's cartridge not appearing to be fully run out, and it does not seem willing to run anymore, I'm wary of trusting it for my filmwork. (I'm planning on doing some preliminary testing before making myself a picture this summer)sunrise wrote:Much better than it was years ago.
