Canon interval timer E

Anyone here tried using the Canon Interval timer E with a non-Canon camera? It seems that even though the jack is the standard 3/32" width, it is shorter than other jacks. I think Canon designed them so that they could not be used with any other brands. I tried mine with a non-Canon camera and could not get it to work. I compared the length with my remote jack and it seems to be shorter.
