Universal TrueView stability addressed plus Pixel Fix!

Post by MovieStuff »

Okay, just uploaded a new 4.0.9 version that addresses the pesky TrueView stability issue. As it turns out, the third part graphics library used for the TrueView window was simply too unstable on some PCs. And since we could not get under the hood of the library to access the code to address it properly, we had to abandon it. Instead, the main capture window has been changed to allow for scaling. When the software is maximized to fill the screen, the capture window will now scale as well with an increase in resolution. While the resulting window isn't as big as the TrueView window, it is perfectly stable and plenty big enough to accommodate fine focusing and framing. There are added advantages in that you don't need a separate monitor, even if you are doing 2K captures, since the 2K image is properly scaled to fit into the capture window without affecting clarity. Also, the scaled window now allows for a larger view of your files on playback, which was not possible even when TrueView was stable, since TrueView was for capture only.

In the future, we may again offer a separate high resolution window that can be used on a second monitor but, for now, this is the solution we are offering in replacement of TrueView, may it rest in piece. :)

In addition, a pixel fixing function has been added to the software. So if your camera develops a hot pixel, the software will automatically map the location and remember. Dead pixels will then be fixed during export of your files. While there is onboard firmware that can be accessed during a remote session with the manufacturer, it's a hassle and can only fix up to 128 pixels. While that sounds like a lot of dead pixels, it really isn't when you consider there are 3.2 million pixels on the sensor. The software will now fix any and all pixels it finds, even ones that might not be visible to the naked eye. Also, fixing during export is better because, if you are reviewing a week's worth of transfers and suddenly find your camera has developed a bad pixel, you don't have to wait to set up a remote session with the manufacturer, fix the camera via firmware, and then re-transfer your footage. Instead, you just immediately remap the pixels and then re-export your files.

The new 4.0.9 software is on the website support page

Thank you, Roger 👏

I can now make the capture window big enough by stacking my monitors over/under, then filling the top screen width-wise with the RetroScan software, and dragging the bottom of that window onto the lower screen until the capture window just touches the bottom of upper monitor.

Now I'm looking for an inexpensive-and-good over/under dual monitor stand...
