NEWB - Leicina connection to microprocessor?

Post by Simon Lucas »

Hi. I'm looking for someone who can advise me on modding a Leicina Special, please.

I first wish to connect my Leicina to a microprocessor for shutter control. I have seen this discussed before here in the context of self-made intervalometers, but that was back in 2006.

Can anyone advise me on the kind of switch (and even a circuit design) I should use, please? I'm looking at using a MOSFET but have no idea if this is the best solution or how to specify it and the circuit to match the camera's shutter circuit. I have the basic camera circuit diagram that came with the Leicina's ST-1 manual.

I know the camera shutter connection pins and have tested it works by shorting across them. I have already designed a circuit that uses an opto-isolator switch but this for some reason this does not fire the shutter. My knowledge of electronics is very partial but I can make breadboards from other's designs and code the Ardiuno.

It's quite specialised as it need some knowledge of the camera as well as electronics.

More info. The shutter circuit current is 38mA in single frame and 90mA in continuous modes. I will try and find out what kind of switching component will work. When I get a working design I will post it to the forum.

[UPDATE]

First steps towards Leicina Special modification:

I have the circuit now working with a SPST Reed-relay switch (an appropriately out-of-date 1930s technology). I will post a circuit diagram with the specs. as soon as I learn to draw.

You can't see it, but in theory, I was getting single shutter activation every 100ms in my first run through pictured here:
