64t Cross-processed, super cool! sample posted

Post by Justin Lovell »

Just shot this behind the scenes footage on a RED short I was on for Bravo!
Knew I was going to be in corn fields with lots of greens and yellows so took it as a great opportunity to have 64t reversal cross-processed in neg chemistry.

It really makes those colors pop!

Shot on a Canon 1014xls, super duper 8/max 8. Letterboxed to 16:9. Some vingetting at certain focal lengths, I also had the lens hood on which doesn't help the problem. (was framing for 4:3, but figured what the heck, I can transfer it at 16:9 full frame so i will!)

Very cool.
Colors look amazing.
When I had 64T crossed, the transfer looked nothing like that.
In fact everything blended to green.

... hehe... that's the beauty of having your own transfer suite. I'm able to create some really cool looks now that I am supervising my own transfers.

I rated it normally at 64T. There were some other over/underexposure samples on my site as well. Just like neg.. underexposure is not ideal. You have to activate the film by getting at least normal exposure, you can't pull something from nothing (but you can always print it down if its overexposed)!

you can also try checking out some more stuff on:
[url] http://www.justinlovell.blip.tv[/url

The 64t sample is in there if you click on episode archive > choose the 64T clip > scroll down to 'play episode as' and choose MP4 (source). (you can do that for any of the clips I've posted to avoid watching the compressed Flash version)

That may work for ya!

(I'm going to move all my stuff over to vimeo, seems like a better hosting site)... and you can embed clips directly into your blog/website too.

Justin-

Was the music video "Fake Empire" shot entirely on Super 8? Do you have any 64T samples that you've transferred?

Thank you.

The cross process 64t does look pretty cool. Justin, since you have seen the uncompressed film, how does the graininess compare to 200t?

They don't even compare.

64T crossed is super grainy.

7217 (200t) can look very very slick. Just posted some more stills to show you what I mean.. 64t, 200t and 500t.
