dunno.
apparently common practice:

In the US, an average person consumes more than four times as much fuel as the rest of the world, and more than twice as much as in Europe.

Tim - I measured the BLACK area for Asia (eyeballed it) and the BLUE area for USA...seems to me the BLACK width is MORE than the USA width at the 2001 mark.
And Angus, I am not talking about CO2 output...I was simply talking OIL and using a google top ranked picture...I am sure there are many better sources but for the sake of this forum, it made my point just fine: OTHER PLACES OTHER THAN THE USA WILL BECOME THE TOP ENERGY CONSUMERS ON A PER CAPITA AND A TOTAL USE LEVEL...

fair agneugh - please read this with sence - this is the total energy consumption per capita for the worst (ab)users.
anyway, it is not true as all sorts of energy is included and recalced to "oil equivalents".
for norway especially and most northern countries in general this is or may be false vs oil as this country (norway) up to recently has been totally self supplied by Hydro Power for electric power consumption - power by water generation and this is totally pollution free. Also due to cold climate we need more energy for heating - on the other side - but you dont really need it
you may need the extra power in summer time for your aircons.

imagery doesent seem to work very well.

WTF? Far East & Oceania use up two times as much oil than Europe, and even three times as much as North America? I'd say, did you flip that chart by 180 degrees?super8man wrote:

Hahahahaha, Finland ranked number three! YES! (McCauley Kalkin or whatever his name is). Canada screwed at number two (35 million people compared to 350 million in the USA)...and USA, the numero uno of most bitchinest places to live...number 1!! Makes me want to leave my computer at work on 24/7 searching for extra terrestial life forms!
Let's face it, A wise person does at once, what a fool does at last. Both do the same thing; only at different times. Other countries will eventually take our place on these rankings.

But twice as much oil consumption in Western Europe than in North America? Also, do they really use up that much oil in India?S8 Booster wrote:heh, 750 millio people in india and 1.25 billion in china, and add the rest of asia and australia n new zealand and those figures should be right.

Anyway, will other Western countries really replace the US as for oil consumption? As much as I know, we're currently very busy on finding alternatives as otherwise, we'll be out of fuel by about 2035 or 2050.

Dunno but industry is a main consumer so they mau be.tlatosmd wrote: Also, do they really use up that much oil in India?
i dont quite follow that from the graph. seems like western europe consumes less than USA at the total and there are many more people in western europe now than in USA since EU was extended.tlatosmd wrote: But twice as much oil consumption in Western Europe than in North America?.
are we on the same figures?

No, I understand China will soon overtake us in both energy consumption AND the production of harmful emissions. They are in fact just at the beginning of their industrial revolution.super8man wrote:You all have been sooo busy bashing the USA that you have failed to notice Asia's rise in the consumption of oil (and refined products made from oil). you all crack me up. Man, I wish I had something to do today (don't answer that!).
But today, we are still the worst offenders on all counts. And arrogantly stubborn about the whole thing to boot. Read up on the Kyoto treaty for all the relevant data.

This is an interesting list. Fortunately we finns make only a 5.2 million population, but we make half of all the people living this far north. Year 2001 30% of total power was used in wintertime heating of houses and buildings. An interesting (or not) anecdote is that a single industrial plant bites 1/50 of all consumption. Outokumpu chromium and steel plant in Tornio uses 2% of the total, this is bought from Norway in the form of electricity.
