Kodak Announces Sale of Patents

Post by Will2 »

$525 Million is more than the bare minimum of $500 Million they needed but far short of what they hoped for.

Wonder if we could get together on Kickstarter and buy the Kodachrome or Super 8 patents although I'd expect they are expired by now.

It's still kind of a sad and bitter story.

Ten, twenty years down the road, when Kodak is either long gone or just a small niche manufacturer, historians will look back on this as the moment they had to sell the family jewels. I know they blew the digital imaging thing long ago, but they did still have these patents, which were worth something both monetarily and symbolically, I guess.

Or, maybe it was a good deal regardless--were the patents going to be worthless soon anyway?

Since patents only have a life of 17 years in the U.S., I would expect these to be near the end of their life anyway.
