I've had this problem several times: How to record sync sound effects while filming on film. I thought once that I could shoot on 16 mm film and record sound with a camcorder at the same time. Worked great and incredibly smoothly - in theory. However, trying to operate both cameras didn't work at all. As a solution I built this interface box between the film camera and the video camera. It works with super-8 cameras too.
The idea is very simple. When you start filming, a recording command is sent to the video camera. The video camera stops when the shooting is finished. The device can be connected to the LANC interface or the remote cable input of Panasonic cameras. Frame pulses from the flash connector trigger the box to send the recording command. It sends the stop command when the frame pulses go out.
I don't know if anyone else has any use for it but I know I will use it on some projects.
That idea of yours is quite good - a big time saver since if you just ran the video camera without your device you end up spending all day trying to isolate the "take" to align it with the film on the computer. Assuming you find it...
