Read it and weep, guys.

Unless, of course, there are the die-hards that still believe Kodachrome will be made forever. ;)

Well, better find some S8, R8, 16mm or 135 quick and use it this sunny summer or autumn to enjoy it while it lasts.
Dwayne´s may stop processing as soon as the last batches have expired or are stopping coming in. And thus stopping the cine processing. Although this may still be 3-5 years away.

June 22nd, 2009, 7 AM Eastern Standard time:
Today, Eastman Kodak Corporation has officially announced the retirement of Kodachrome 64, the last remaining variation of legendary Kodachrome Color Film. This includes both consumer 135 KR-64-36 and professional 135 PKR-64-36 versions. However, Kodak and the only remaining lab in the world that develops Kodachrome have contracted to honor customer's requests for Kodachrome processing until at least 12/31/2010. In addition to this support, Kodak has stated that in current production and supply, Kodachrome film should be available until early Fall of this year with distribution that is considerate to all who would want to use it.*
This presents the public with a unique opportunity to still experience the film first hand before it is too late, with it’'s 75th anniversary being well within reach of Kodachrome fans next year.*
Kind regards,
André

This totally sucks! All of the 35mm I shoot is Kodachrome.
Pull that old movie camera out of the closet! I'm sure it's hungry for some film!

Velvia 50 is back and it looks great.
Of course nothing looks quite like Kodachrome. Oh well. We knew it was coming.

the deadline of getting it processed will force me to use the K40 sound carts I have stashed away in the fridge! Nothing quite like a drop-dead date to force you into filming...

Dammit...Kodachrome slide film is now impossible to get hold of in Australia. Though I do have a relative in London. Is there any shop in London that stocks Kodachrome 64?

For a while, I've been aware Dwayne's was the only one left processing Kodachrome. I noticed Spectra Film & Video also offers the same service. Is this farmed out to Dwayne's or are they the second lab that does this?

As a super 8 user, and film enthusiast, i am not really aware whats the difference between Kodakchrome and Ektachrome. And how long would it take before all S8 film is ending?

Read up on the Kodachrome process, it's pretty amazing; nothing else quite like it in the film industry.
The color dye is not in the film, it's in the processing. Kodachrome is made of up three layers of b&w film that, when processed, dye is added to give a unique look and extremely long lasting color. It's the best archival film every made by far.

It will not be ending soon. Rough guess would be like 8-12 years supported by Kodak but some other company will find a way to continue to make some type of super 8 film well past that. And how long would it take before all S8 film is ending?

A few Kodachrome stills I have shot over the years http://www.kinokone.fi/kodachrome.htm. Perhaps not the most artistic photos I have taken but they are Kodachromes!
I just bought four more rolls of K64. They are the last ones. I will make a slide show of the 50 last Kodachrome photos. Do you have any plans on how to spend your last Kodachrome films?
