No, it hasn't happened to me - but there's always a first time. If the packet had been damaged within the Royal Mail system then it would have been sealed into a plastic envelope with a 'sorry your item has been damaged' message. But this doesn't exclude damage by a renegade British postman. You could get some clues by the way the stamps have been cancelled - if it's a clear imprint then you might assume that the damage occurred 'on the other side of the water'. This isn't much to go on and I've probably broken the o s a by making these comments already!
I've done a bit of research and found out that US customs (just like UK) will inform the recipient if they examine any incoming mail. So unless someone's been grossly incompetent that hasn't happened here. Their advice if stuff arrives incomplete without explanation is to take it up with the sending post office (which I have done).
So..out of interest... does anyone know for sure what the USPS does when a package becomes damaged within their system?

Well the one film that actually made it to the lab came back fine. I'd just really like to know what happened to the other two...Clapton Pond wrote:So... how did the film turn out? Did it survive all this manhandling?

Heard back from Royal Mail...wondering what drugs they are on to be honest.
The form I completed said they needed "proof of market value" for the lost goods, so I included a printout from Jessops online shop which offers super 8 64T at the RRP of £12.99
Got a letter from them returning my forms saying they can't continue unless I resubmit with "proof of value" such as a reciept, credit card bill or cash machine reciept.
Now call my daft but isn't a current Jessops web page better indication than a reciept from a cash machine? "Oh, here's a reciept. I took out £100, I used £25 of that on super 8 film."
Duh.
