I'm glad to see others are enjoying this work. I remember back in the early nineties being fresh out of college, unemployed and watching Elliotts series of 6 programmes 'Road Dreams' and loving the look of the footage. I studied photography at college and was already shooting super8, but I am certain that Elliotts footage fueled my interest and inspired me to the extent that I am still shooting film now. Whilst the music may not be to everyones taste I still think it's worth a watch. It will be interesting to see what the soundtrack is like for the final DVDs. The tv series included some well known pieces of music, and when I eventually managed to find an email address for Elliott a couple of years ago I enquired about a possible DVD release of the original tv series. It would appear that getting the rights for the music was one of the main problems as far as a commercial release was concerned.

Take it easy,

Simon

Certainly a play on the word "coda," I would think. Though it is awkward. :?

One Mark and one Elliot.
One with a Volkswagen and one with some US stationwagon.
This is kind of an interesting mystery--two guys with the same name, on different continents, coming up with the same shtick? Pretty amazing.

Well, not so much of a mystery, after all. Just had to read down into the comments on his blog.

"Are you the Mark Bristow mentioned in an old Super 8 Filmaker?

Yes I am. My full name is Mark Elliott Bristow. I started using Elliott around 1976. The motive grew out of my being on a lighting rig one day, and when someone called out ‘Mark’ the three of us on the rig looked up. It was also about the time that the film came to be called Road Dreams. Before that (early 4 screen days) it was known as Mark’s America - which didn’t exactly help the cold calling sales pitch when I was trying to sell the show by phone. But that’s a useful attribute to keeping a diary; it allows the diary keeper (and film) to change tack."

So mr Bristow must now compete with his own footage uploaded by third parties. What makes this people think (if they do at all) that they can publish other people's images or footage on a public forum.

The only comfort it that the quality is so extremely poor.

Refering to websites, images or video is not a problem.

I find it disturbing that people publish other people's copyrighted material through youtube and the like as a pastime and to have a good feeling or somthing like that. They inflict direct financial damage to the original owner.

The copyright report form of youtube is just an insult. It makes it difficult for the owner to insist on his rights. This while posting is the easiest of things and they take the word of a poster as good as an declaration of ownership. It is the world upside down. And then the founders of youtube want us to believe that they did not speculate on copyright breaches by posters.

I contacted Bristow.
Kind regards,

André
