My short at the Toronto Urban Film Festival

Post by filmamigo »

Hey guys, just wanted to share the excitement!

A new short that I have been working on has been accepted into the Toronto Urban Film Festival. It's an interesting festival for one minute, silent shorts which are going to be programmed on the Toronto subway TV screens.

The short is called "Postering" and was shot on Super 8, 24p DV, 35mm stills and DSLR stills. Our own Justin Lovell did the Super 8 transfers (Plus-X.)

This version is just the first -- I have another 1 minute cut with sound, and am working on a longer short (4 or 5 minutes.)

I'll keep you posted on how things go...

The website is http://www.torontourbanfilmfestival.com/

Check it out... I think there's a voting component and you can screen the film online.

Nice - reminds me of my time back in the day as a music promoter out with flyers and a bucket of paste - sticky!

Nicholas, our film should be in the lineup tomorrow night. I'd love to meet you there -- please introduce yourself!

For anyone else in Toronto, tomorrow is the big day -- "Postering" will be playing on the TTC screens once every 100 minutes, so time your trips well.

Like Nicholas said, there is a party at 10:30pm Tuesday night at the Drake on Queen St. West. It's FREE and everyone is invited!

Also, please keep voting for our film. "Postering" is doing quite well in the vote count, but we'd love to pull into the lead! Remember -- vote early, vote often. It's the foundation of democracy

Is your film actually screening at the Drake prior to 10:30pm? Can you please clarify....

...that is what I was hoping.

No, I think the screenings start at 10:30 as well. That's when I'll be going. Here's the info directly from TUFF:
Screening of TUFF films at the Drake!

On Tuesday September 11th come to the Drake Hotel for a screening of TUFF submissions. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite film while getting to hear some great music as well as meet with other filmmakers. It will be an event not to be missed!

Admission is free, starts at 10:30pm

Dave.

I was there but only lasted from 10:45 to 11:15...debating whether to call out your name..but alas...I failed to convince the beautiful suburban chichi Drake crowd to project your film. :)

Nicholas

PS: Is your film available for viewing other than the subway?

Hi Nicholas, so glad you could make it out! They did eventually project my film, but the Drake also interupted the evening by switching to their usual "art/documentary background imagery" screenings. The festival organizers finally got the Drake to put the festival films back up.

I was there from 10 to 1:30 or so, sorry I missed you! I met a lot of the other filmmakers, but it was very informal, no announcements or introductions or anything like I expected. Lots of fun though.

You can still see all of the films online, and voting is still open for the "people's choice". The link is:

http://www.torontourbanfilmfestival.com/vote.php

"POSTERING" is about 1/3 of the way down the list, in the category "Big Smoke, Big Dreams."

Please check out our film and vote for us! (You can even vote more than once... seems like you can vote maybe once an hour.)
