WANTED: super 8 movie film for projection
Hey,
I just got setup in a new studio space and have a great picture window overlooking one of the main streets in toronto. I've been projecting some old kung-fu, godzilla and various movie trailers onto a a sheet covering the window. Been getting some great responses from people passing by.
So does anyone have any obscure films they would be willing to take off the dusty shelves and give them some new life out here?

I have some on super-8 I don't mind selling. They're all 200' or less, and all B/W silent.
"The Creature from the Lagoon"
"The Great McGonigle" W.C. Fields
"The Mummy" Boris Karloff
"The Hunchback of Notre Dame" Charles Laughton (only 50')
"Doom of Dracula" Boris Karloff
"Son of Frankenstein"
"20 Million Miles to Earth"

I might still have some R8 porn I bought off Urbanski or some such seller. Would that help?

Not sure you'd want to project porn in a public area

now thats what i call real exhibitionism! some creative news team will probably do a television fluff piece on "the movie window guy of Toronto."
have seen several super8sound condensed features on epay like close encounters and other sci-fi (some 200ft cartoons too). was tempted to buy something but they got really bid on.
the good thing is, seems everybody is listing what they find these days. the only trailer i own on film is Batman, but its 35mm.
do you plan to sell popcorn out front? that might really attract a crowd.

My favs are "The Incredible Shrinking Man" where the house cat attacks, and spider fights. Anything by RAY HARRYHAUSEN, especially the the Raquel Welch "Million Years BC" or "Jason and the Argonauts" fighting all the various monsters... Any of the original Godzilla's - Mothras or King Kong with the bi-planes, and Lost World's dinasaurs is excellent too. I would just use choice edits of Ebay super 8's, intercut some Disney animations, 1920's slapstick and 50's sci-fi / Horror for variety.

or devise a DIY S8 optical printer unit that makes frame by frame copies...freddiesykes wrote:I wonder if any lab would willingly make a s8 print of copyrighted material, say a hollywood film or the like. You may have to get chummy with the technician..
I actually would like to experiment on some optical work on my own time sometime soon if I could put a printer together.
One thing I have to say about super-8. If you're going to get porn, that's definitelly the medium for it. My former room mate gave me his old Laserdisk player and it had porn in it. I can't imagine why anybody would want to buy porn on LD. Now they have "HD" for porn. IMHO, the lower the definition, the better off we are.

Was that "reaction" or "erection"? 8)Nigel wrote:I have some S8 porn I could let you borrow...
It used to get a great reaction as I would project it onto the snow covered sidewalks at night.
Good LUck
There are plenty of blockbusters in full length available from Derann or Classic Home Cinema.I wonder if any lab would willingly make a s8 print of copyrighted material, say a hollywood film or the like. You may have to get chummy with the technician..

I understand a lot of the porn actresses despise HD because it shows every blemish, flaw and age line. It's harder for a 35 year old actress to pass herself off as 18. In that way, Super8 is the ideal format; it softens everything and gives great fleshtones. But I doubt it will catch on; the industry workflow is entirely video.

I'm confused by what you are saying here -- we should start shooting porn in S8? Ok -- sounds good -- where do I sign up?audadvnc wrote:I understand a lot of the porn actresses despise HD because it shows every blemish, flaw and age line.
