where to buy s8 stock in Paris?

Post by kino_eye »

hi all,

i have a friend headed to paris for a month, and she would rather not schlep unexposed/undeveloped film across the atlantic both ways what with security and all.

judging from the lab list on this site, it seems there aren't any labs in paris that process s8 (she'll be shooting some ekta, possibly b&w)--true?

is there at least anywhere she can buy raw stock once she arrives? she won't be there for long enough to really get into shipping/mailing i don't think. she leaves in 2 days.

thanks.

When mail ordering from Andec it should be there in a week.

Or try http://www.parallaxe.nl No trouble using paypal there.

She would get an much better price too that way. I expect she'll double premium when shopping for such rare specialty goods in Paris.
Kind regards,

Like said. Mind the prices.

ADDED An Euro now costs $1,33.
when comparing note the VAT is included or not.

E64t at Euro 14,50 makes $ 18-19 When from Kodak in USA and buying from KODAK directly you get much better prices like $10-12

BW rev should be really beautiful for 'street or parc in spring' scenes. These cost like Euro 22 which is $28 while from Kodak it costs $10-12

You better stock up before travelling and buy from Kodak. Should be good and quick according to many posts here.

Otherwise try Andec directly. They have nice processing included films with mailers. http://www.andecfilm.de/en/e_start.htm

Hi,

some years ago the larger FNAC and some photoshops used to sell K40 in Paris. I don't know whether they'll now stock e64t or not since several shops here in Berlin stopped supporting Super8 when Kodak axed the K40.

At least Cinedia in France is able to do e6-processing for double8, super8, 16mm and 9.5mm. They also sell filmstock. Their address can be found here:

I am quoting from the named french sites and from memory what people here have stated as their Kodak direct prices (which are ex VAT and valid in USA only where OP friend currently is). Very much valid compare thus.

With the current Euro-$ rate one could easily make a profitable reseller construction with direct delivery from USA to Eu.

Remarkable as the films used to be manufactered in France :)

Certainly! I don't think I've ever paid as much as 22€ for B/W

Hello kino_eye.

For Kodak Plus X, Tri X, Ektachrome 64T, and Vision2 200T and Vision 2 500T
cartridges in Paris, may be this official source could be useful to your friend.

Comptoir Kodak Cinéma et Télévision
46, rue Poncelet
75017 Paris
(métro Ternes)
Tél : (33 01) 47 63 72 20

I don't know if they sell the cartridges per one unit, or if you need to buy at least 10 cartridges. If calling outside France, you don't have to place the "zero" number of the city code (just dial +33 1 ....)

Bye bye

thanks very much everyone! very helpful. i didn't think about prices but it is a concern.

money-wise there's a real incentive for her to carry the film on the plane: with the kodak student rate here and assuming she's taking 10+ carts, she can save at least 60-80 USD by bringing it along.

i just know that she was trying to avoid all the hassle we had last summer from LA to Berlin and back--they wouldn't hand inspect on the way thru customs in Brussels, and after travelling around to all the museums, etc., we eventually gave up explaining/arguing with security and started sending everything thru the x-ray.

but if she plans ahead a little, hopefully she can get some carts developed there before heading back.

It's funny since I always buy 20 cartridges from the USA when I am visiting friends in NY as Kodak charges so much more in France (I live in Paris).

I never (I repeat, never), had any problems leaving my films (exposed or not) thru X-rays as long as I kept these with me in the plane (never let these in your suitcase, it's another X-ray range, and therefore another story), since the manual inspection is a nonsens with closed cart.
The Fnac stores are not selling super8 cart anymore and you can buy some at Prophot Shop (Prophot.fr) or CineDia or at the "Comptoir Kodak" but they used to sell these by 10.
Personnaly I either buy my stocks in NY when I travel or in Germany via Wittner and develop at Andec. We make the cart but we don't know how to sell it.
So my advise is to buy at home and to process at home or in Germany.

Give your friend my email address If more specific Paris+Super8 infos is needed.
Paris looks great in super8.
regards,
arnaud.
