Procedure for Single8?

Post by tlatosmd »

Got back from my forum meeting in Berlin where I shot some K40, 64T, 100D, and R25N. I'd also planned to test some Velvia50D, however neither GK Film, nor Wittner, nor Frank was able to delive in time, it's just too popular to keep up with demand for it.

Now, it was incredibly hot and damp, and two of my three fresh K40 carts (dated 2006) came out pretty magenta in the blacks, while the third actually turned out a bit greenish and desaturated overall(?).One cart was a timelapse of the famous world-time clock at Alexanderplatz, the greenish one was several timelapses of the whole city, shot from the Alexanderplatz TV tower.

I've had the 64T processed by Andec, it turned out grainy as could be expected, but due to my frequent using of discontinued stocks I wasn't too bothered with it. However the colors didn't look off even though I used my regurlar in-built cam filter, probably that was due to the Andec processing. In fact, the colors didn't even look as vintage as they seem to in posted telecines, in fact they're nothing short from boring. I didn't recognize it to be any sharper than most other stocks, in fact its particular grain nature made it appear pretty blurry no matter how much I tried to focus.

Now, the 100D (processed by Andec as well) turned out absolutely fantastic! :D Crystal-clear and sharp like 16mm, colors almost magically vibrant while still natural! :D Got beautiful sun-setting skies in the background and Berlin in twilight lit by purple skylight at Bahnhof Zoo. Plus more latency and available f-stops than K40. It blew me away! Regarding my former experiments with Ektachrome160T, Ektachrome G, and VNF, it's hard to believe this is an Ektachrome stock in S8 at all with its colors, sharpness, and grainlessness.

As the title of this thread suggests, I've also shot some R25N. I bought it from Frank who told me to buy it with processing not included and send it to Retro. Now what do I do with that cart? What's the correct address for Retro? Will I have to pay for prcessing, and if so, how?

Well, just ask mr Tak of Retro about the Fuji.

http://film.club.ne.jp/english/englishindex.html

It is plain E6 processing (or not) and might just as well go to Andec or others. And faster...
Kind regards,

André

Frank said neither he nor Andec can do R25N, they only send it to Japan.

Tak can send it to Fuji or process it himself - he is able to process the Fujichrome process too. Of course you have to pay for it. Fujichrome Single-8 is sold for more than 8 years withour processing now. Go to http://www.retro8.com and send him a mail. He speaks German and English.

By the way: The new Single-8 films and all about Tak and Retro 8 can be read in schmalfilm. :)
