This might not affect second hand camera sales as enthusiasts will still be buying as they rush to try it before it disappears.

On the Kodak front, I must say everyone seems to knock Kodak all the time, but it is their support and continued investment in Super 8 which means we're all still shooting Super 8 in 2006.

Fuji haven't diversified their 8mm film into the pro/semi pro/ indie film-maker market (like K-40 was the last "home movie" Super 8 film, Single 8 is still marketed as "home movie" film in Japan).

Yep. The Fuji carts are super easy to load. One thing though, I think the Fuji stock was thinner, so you may not get all 50' of Kodak product in there...

Could be time to develop reloadable carts in 200' format. I always thought it would be easy to cut a 1/4" TAB out of the top of the film door to fit a 200' reloadable cart. Anyone could build one easy compaired to the super-8 200' carts. I have 7 Single-8 cameras myself.

Wouldn't mind one of these:

For all the latest Super 8 stocks.

Don't throw away your Z800 or ZC 1000 yet.

I think other films are already available for single 8 like the velvia 50. Also, I remember retro in Japan saying to me in an email a few months ago that even if Fuji stopped, they had plans to produce carts with other film in them.

a bit on the aside; i think it is remarkable that our worldwide! 8mm communities are not big or active enough to keep either K40 or R25N / RT200 going.

surely glad for options.

It means they can not make money from it.
Otherwise they would keep it going, believe me.
It's as simple as that.

It also means 14000 Single-8 cartridges/year worldwide is not enough.

The companys who are punching/splitting are deserving all the support they can get!

Yes.
Carlos 8mm wrote:or Is there some chance to replace these old emulsions by E-6 films as Velvia?
You can already buy the Cinevia in Single8-cartridges in Japan from Retro + here in Germany from GK-Film. The Cinevia is made from the Fuji-Slide-film Velvia 50D. The Velvia 50D is discontinued, too, but can be replaced by other slide-films like the Velvia 100D. Of course this can only be done while there's any company to produce slide-films.
(Retro is selling B&w-single8-films, too)

I think it's important to understand if Fuji got this decision to withdraw from the super8 market. About the Velvia, Juergen Lossau wrote on this forum
If the product in Super 8 sells well there is a chance that Fuji will go on with the production.
viewtopic.php?t=13778
So: is this the first step to the "new" (for Fuji) market or is it a decision due to the low market request only?

A great shame. Yes somebody else can slit and perf film from Fuji or Kodak and load it into single 8 carts...but it won't be the same again. Such a shame.

The only bright side is that sale value of the higher end si8 cameras will plummet.

As for GK films and their Velvia 50...I've written to them twice directly with email and once from the "contact us" button on their site...and no response :(

My 100D and 40T (Wittner/Kodachrome) is already on its way from Wittner...

The Single8-Cinevia costs 27,50 EUR incl. processing at GK-Film. (Price might be higher for customers outside of Germany.)
Price at Retro is 3200 yen incl. processing (22,387908 EUR).

Retro's price is definately without shipping to Europe. I don't know whether GK's price includes shipping or not.

At the moment GK is very busy. It took me nearly 2 weeks to get an answer. Replies that need a translator might take even longer.
