Oops, a little bit hard to understand...
Will Fuji discontinue the producution and processing of FUJICHROME R25N & RT200N only? or Is there some chance to replace these old emulsions by E-6 films as Velvia?
What about to send a petition to Fuji to sell their reversal films as Velvia and T64 in Super 8mm rolls of 15 or 60 meters?
This way with 60 mts of film we can load 4 Super 8 carts and 5 Single 8 carts...

That's really too bad. I never got the chance to shoot single 8, maybe I should try to make attempt before the year deadline is up.
But what's really the shame is all those cameras will be useless. Including the ZC1000. Man I feel sorry for everyone that has recently invested in a single 8 camera.

Sad news indeed...and I will certaintly miss the R25 and RT200. I have recorded many personal memories over the years with these 2 emulsions.
Demand must have dropped to a level that is not worthwhile for Fuji to continue with manufacturing it, and it means the end of magnetic post striping with Single 8 film also.
Guess it wouldn't be too difficult for someone to manufacture a reloadable Single 8 cartridge loaded with film of your choice. Or you can roll your own using the old carts that's held together with sticky tape.
Sad, Sad.

Not really useless, someone somewhere will continue to make film for these cameras because it's not difficult to make or reload a single 8 cartridge, unlike a super 8 cart.film_idaho wrote: But what's really the shame is all those cameras will be useless. Damn. This is such shitty news. I had really been thinking about moving towards using Single 8 a lot more. Recently bought a couple of great cameras. What is happening? Don't these corporations see the changes that are going? The resurgence in popularity? What a total drag.
Is there anything that can be done to reverse this decision? It's not quite the same circumstances as K40 so maybe if there is an outcry, things could change. But I just don't think their is enough demand. Just not as many cameras and people using them. Super 8 shooters--it really is a BETTER system!
Seriously depressed.

According to Juergen's article on the Fuji lab from the current issue of smallformat, Fuji processes about 14,000 cartridges of Single-8 each year, and it has been dropping by about 10% annually.etimh wrote:What is happening? Kodak continues to offer five different Kodak film stocks in the Super-8 format. 8)reflex wrote:According to Juergen's article on the Fuji lab from the current issue of smallformat, Fuji processes about 14,000 cartridges of Single-8 each year, and it has been dropping by about 10% annually.etimh wrote:What is happening? An important consideration in choosing which films to offer is the availability of processing, both by professional labs and at home. The ECN-2 process is used by professional filmmakers around the world, and the E-6 and B&W reversal processes are offered by a variety of labs, and can also be done at home.

You can't easily get from a Super 8 cart to Single-8, though...
I just had my dad translate the relevant sections.
Processing will stop in Sept. 2008 and sales will cease in March 2007.
