100D and Vision 3 please
the record time is pretty limited on that fostex. it's ok if you are just recording in mono, but if you are planning to use the other 7 tracks then you will run out of storage space pretty quickly - just 3 mins per track if you use all 8 with the included 128mb card. plus you are limited to only recording 2 tracks at once. Can't see any mention of phantom power on the mic inputs either..fritzcarraldo wrote:i was talking about this:

But, could i use it together with the sony hi-md?
Because i can't equalize qith sony hi-md...
If eq is all you need i would transfer the sound from your hi-md to your computer & use some freeware audio editing software like http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ for the eq.

What would be the most interesting hi-md to buy?
I did post in this thread way back, but have heard little mention of timecode. If you are going to be shooting dual system sound for either film or digital, then you are way ahead of the game if your audio recorder has SMPTE Timecode. That is what any pro set up would have and what any audio mixer worth their salt would recommend. That is why a Nagra or DAT are the most used, that and the fact that they record great audio. So does this thing http://www.tascam.com/Products/hdp2.html
I plugged it before and will do it again. For a grand, you can have what any Pro DAT field recorder will do. You won't find anything but a used DAT for a thousand, this unit is brand new, has analog preamps, SMPTE timecode, records to flash memory, has firewire out, records as broadcast WAVE in 24 bit, etc. All for a grand. How can you go wrong?
It seems that people have moved away from pro mini disc in favor of flash memory. I know the HHB mini disc will set you back 1800.
Any of the last Himd produced. For sure the MZ-M10 or its twin version with the OLED screen the MZ-M100. They both have an extra dry battery case in addition to the rechargeable battery and the usb out to transfer to your Pc or Mac. The "older" versions might be good as well just be certain that they deal with Linear PCM and have the transfer option.

Hello,
So, the TASCAM would be the better option to work with film?
From what i see, i guess it is,
Because the Hi-Md seems good to play with, but complicated to work with film
I have another question, since the hi-md doesn't have a jack plug, doesn't it loose sound quality if i use a jack plug shotgun microphone?
Because the TASCAM does,
So, to work with film, do you say that this machine would be perfect to sycnhronize and equalize, and to use good shotgun microphone like a SHURE?
I work mainly in film, but also with video, so, you've been helpfull, and i got confused in the process, but please continue to write, to clear some doubts i still have.
I'm a sound ignorant person.
