I'm starting to have some weird thoughts about this thread--who cares what and how many cameras we own? This listing of our camera "collections" seems like a lot of posturing...who started this topic anyways?

What I'd really like to know is which cameras people are actually using and which are just for collecting purposes. For instance, I have only actually used my 814XL-S, my Nikon and my Nizo. The others I have acquired from family and because I thought they were cool for some reason or another. I would never think of burning any film through them.

Question: which cameras do you USE, and which cameras are just part of your "collection?" And c'mon, 5(!) Leicinas (?!?!). Fucking donate one to me--I'll actually use it.

Oh, com'on Tim! Why this attitute?
Non of the guys here are trying to show their wealth.
Alan Doyle is a special case. Do you know the man? He is into filming before you and me were probably born (and I'm 33!)
James P Graham has many Beaulieus. Reedsturtevant (a member of this forum) I guess, has many cameras also...an what about Juergen?
We are just trying to register our equipment here, nothing less nothing more. for your information, I know a Greek fellow who lives in Greece also and has 3000+ still and movie cameras!
Check this Greek guy also: He has ove 1200 movie projectors and cine cameras (he is only a collector not a filmaker)
http://chpsagr.site4all.gr/
Do I hate him? Of course not!
I myself have over 400 (no, not a typo!) 8mm, 9.5mm, super8, 16mm cameras. I haven't used all this gear but I'm doing my best! That's my hobby!
The list is almost complete, but I 'm afraid of the reactions if I post it.

Nakamichi Cassette Deck 2

Akai 1720L open reel
Marantz 6210 turntable ($10 at a yard sale Whooo!)
Harmon/Kardon 330c high current receiver
Hand made speakers...designed and made by yours truly

But the Systemdek is always pride of place. Wife wants me
to dump the Akai 4000DB :( How do I help her?

As for showing off wealth......only the Praktica BX20S and one lens, Systemdek, H/K and Nakamichi were purchased new...everything else including all the cameras and lenses was bought on the cheap or given to me.

Exactly!!!!!!!!! I second that!

My configuration for music:
Nakamichi Dragon tape deck
Revox A77 Open Reel
Aiwa Excelia XS-9000
Pionner Laserdisc 2950
Linn Axis-Akito-Asaka
Onkyo DAT 901
Philips DCC 900
Sonus Faber concertinos speakers (beauties from Italy!)
All these I purchased second hand from Ebay.de for the price of a new Nakamichi Dragon. That doesn't make me rich...
Angus, the systemdeck is indeed fantastic! A friend of mine has it and I listened to it at many occasions. It simply disappears from the scene.
Same problem here! My wife hates the huge Revox... :(

16mm, 13 that work and one that does not - yet... 14 total. edit: Nope, make that 15, David fixed one and sent it to me.

S8, 4 and some others donated that I don't know if they work or not.

R8, too many. I use two of them. 30?

What I'd really like to know is which cameras people are actually using and which are just for collecting purposes.
One H16T, a Keystone A-7/9 depends on which is working at the time

and 4 x 16mm 50 ft magazine loaders - use one and the others are for spares incase they die. In this case it is the format and not the camera that is the thing in use.

I don't want to use any others. There is a H16RX-1 but lenses are too expensive; now, if I did have the lenses that is the one I'd use.

This is my book case full of cine equipment from flea markets...mostly Canons.

Image

My flat is full of cameras and projectors, some are stored away in air tight containers, inside cupboards, underneath my bed. I have a Bolex Reflex on permanent display in the living room because my wife likes the retro looks of it.

It's relaxing to come home after a hard days work just to stare at my friends.

I don't have some of the cool cameras that other members have, such as Leicina Specials, only a really small collection...just don't have the space.

Oh, come on!

I have a young family, which means I have next to no money left over for hobbies and grown-up toys. That's one reason I'm into Super 8; I can get my hands on fantastic equipment for next to nothing.

I'm a shooter, and tend to use what I own. If it doesn't get used, it gets sold to buy something else. But I respect the collectors here tremendously, because the discovery of a $5 Bolex at an estate sale is a wonderful thing.

To answer your question: The 4008 is my camera of choice, but I try to use everything else (that runs) several times a year.

[as an aside, did you notice that Alan listed three Fisher Price Pixelvisions in his collection? That's a man who understands. Brilliant.]

Say Alan, or anybody - can somebody post a Pixelvision frame? I'd like to see what makes it so special?

I've used all the cameras I own with the exception of the Kiev 16U (just came a few weeks ago) and the Yashica Electro-8 (doesn't run).

I sense some jealousy... who cares what other people have? The point of this thread is to get a sense of who uses what equipment. Owning gear is a large part of the attraction to small gauge filming, like it or not. If you deny it, show me someone who rents an S8 camera for regular use.

Horshack: Oh Oh Mr. Kotter? I had a PXL2000. I want to be cool too! Actually I traded it for a BNIB Eumig Nautica. In retrospect, it was the best trade I have made yet.

BK - I love the collection! Truly awesome.

Here's my gallery of fool shot from a while ago...I think 4 cameras add about 40 pounds:

Image

To be honest, I don't know how many cameras I have...not that many after the swap meet a while ago where I unloaded about 10 lesser liked ones...
My website - check it out...

I use all my cameras from time to time...some frequently (I never travel anywhere without the BX20s and usually the Elmo 110) some just occasionally...but if there is any piece of equipment in my list that hasn't been used in the last 12 months I am surprised. Maybe the Halina 6-4.

My wife reminded me that I promised 2 years ago that the Akai tape deck would be put into storage after I'd archived some tapes to CD....oops...

Hey Michael you might think it's awesome but I don't have the "Totally Awesome" cool gear that you have in your collection.
