Canon 814 or 1014 spare part wanted

Post by Silverdream »

Is there anyone out there that has a Canon 814 or 1014 that's being wrecked for spares? The silent models.
I need one of the plastic gears that drives the frame and footage counter. This is from the model with the two circular dials.
Unfortunately mine has a broken tooth. I was thinking maybe I could fix the tooth but the dentists here are so darn expensive. :D
Alternatively, has anyone had success in repairing a gear? This one has quite fine teeth. The gear is 10mm diameter and 1 mm thick and the teeth are bevelled slightly.
Sure, Canon Super 8 camera lenses are great quality but the design and serviceability of the camera should have been a lot better. :(

Maybe I'll have a go at making a new gear. Wonder if anyone has had success with moulding a fine tooth gear?
This Canon camera is way to complicatedly (big word here) designed! These bloody engineers should stick to drawing rockets!

Since it seems no one has a scrap Canon 814 or 1014 available for parts I am thinking of scraping my Canon 1014.
If you need a part let me know which part you want and if I get enough different parts wanted I won't bother to repair my camera.

Seems like that might be a good project for a 3D printer...

Will2,
This is a very fine toothed plastic gear. It's 18mm diameter, 1mm thick, with 40 teeth of 1 mm tooth depth and helical cut.
One would need a very high resolution 3D printer I think. Was going to try epoxy casting but I've got my doubts about how long the gear would last.
Maybe I should try a clock parts supplier but I was hoping someone would have some junker 814 or 1014 camera out there.
Thanks for your suggestion though.

Yes, I think Van Eck might be able to help here...

In Dutch, but a very nice example of 3d printing spare projector parts:

VideoFred,
I have looked into having the gear 3D printed but it is too fine detailed for most peoples printers. Then there is the cost of file creation which is too high for a one off. Therefore I will continue to look for a broken 814 camera. Thanks for the suggestion though.
