Going digital for all intents and purposes...

Hahaha, just found out my website that had been hosted on pacbell.net for ages is now gone as of June 1. Shows how often I looked at it. Time to move the content over to my outriggercanoe.com website...in time...I have to admit, my Canon S90 is doing all my work in both still and movie these days. H...

Re: 8mm Demolition Derby off projector screen

nicely done...I liked the projector ticking sound too! Makes me think it's 1970 all over again with the style of transfer - I say that as a compliment to the look. It's great.

Re: To Can or Not To Can?

You worry too much. Today's films are unlikely to get it...the films I came across were from the 40s and 50s. Most of us will have passed away before any current films experience this...Just a wildassed guess!

In short, just shoot film, store on plastic reels, and enjoy them from time to time.

Re: To Can or Not To Can?

I do not recommend having TIGHT reels - it induces too much memory curl into the film. The film should be relatively LOOSE on the storage reel. On storage reels, only use plastic. TOSS THE METAL ONES. They can rust with humidity and are otherwise easily bent and place unnecessary burden on the film ...

Re: Unusually short lifespan for a recordable DVD

"Color" of the disk is a huge deal. There were lots of experiments with brands offering black and blue surfaces (the side that gets written on) along with the usual bland silver/yellow. Then even some of those more typical colors were so faint when their were written on by some drives that...

Re: bauer royal 8e variable shutter

I don't have the camera handy to me nor the instructions but it seems to me the shutter would NOT be linked to the aperture. The reason being is that you are purposely trying to fade a scene to black (without changing the depth of field, etc) when using the variable shutter dial (like when you crank...

Re: bauer royal 8e variable shutter

The green indicates that the shutter is in the normal position - it's most "open".

You then turn the big dial to close the shutter from that position.

Re: Stereo Realist f3.5 vs. Kodak Stereo camera

While I cannot comment on the Kodak model (other than John Wayne promoted that camera), I have the Realist with the 3.5 lenses and it's basically bulletproof. I have not noticed vignetting and optically am very pleased with the results. I would not over think it, just get one and start shooting. Che...

Re: How many of you guys have problems with leader shrinking

I can only confirm that leader shrinking is quite common in older films. I have seen more 50-footers than I care to think about (from the 1940s to current day) and many of them have shown leader shrinking when I put them on my Bolex splicer. In the end it's not a big deal since the projector still p...

Re: Okay, now I see the source of the HD problem....

I am doing the opposite on my Sharp Aquos - I am using my 60Hz 42inch tv as a monitor and streaming www.fromsportcom.com and watching NHL hockey via the net. When you fullscreen the feed, it gives the video a film look. My friend commented on that and he is NOT a film or tech guy. He thought the fee...

Re: Delueze: The Movement-Image

He defines the movement-images as something which is not a set of stills to which movement is added. Rather it is firstly a movement from which stills are extracted. Analysis. Cinematography. Someone should tell Ken Burns this. Ugh... He can make whole "film" simply using iPhoto and movin...
