Re: Building a new Super 8 camera--the toaster project?

I took his project a different way. I thought he was trying to provide a critique about mass production and consumption by illustrating how capitalistic economies of scale allow for the manufacturer and sale of $5 disposable toasters to a public completely divorced from any of the realities of where...

Building a new Super 8 camera--the toaster project?

Whenever the inevitable discussion once again arises about building a brand new super 8 camera from scratch, go back and look at this story: http://www.dwell.com/articles/the-toaster-project.html http://www.papress.com/html/book.details.page.tpl?isbn=9781568989976 Designer Thomas Thwaites attempts t...

Re: When was the last time you shot real movie film?

Shot a 100ft roll of DS8 at the Occupy Portland rally the other day. I must have heard "cool camera" at least 30 times, and a lot of questions by interested folks. Cant wait to see it! Yeah, taking lots of photos or video at demos can raise some eyebrows and suspicions. I suppose shooting...

Re: Presenting a native ultraPan8 projector.

I do not think... Yes, we're all so grateful that you've decided to resurface again and grace us with all of your trite wisdom. Regardless, I second the praise of Mr. Leugers--he is great and I have much respect for him. His comments about the project just seemed a little unduly deflating an...

Re: Presenting a native ultraPan8 projector.

This is not a new idea. It has been around for decades. Just not many if any actual film makers using it. Who cares about the people who didn't do it, or who aren't using it? Nicholas did do it (getting the cameras modified), and is using it (actually making films--see link). What do I care about t...

Re: Presenting a native ultraPan8 projector.

This is SO crazy.

Been really impressed with the whole camera project but how wild is it to actually find a projector purpose built for the camera system you basically invented from scratch? Mind blowing.

Thanks for the updates and links and keep them coming! Awesome project.

Re: How popular is this site?

Allthough this site might have been even "bigger" a few years ago. I've always been fascinated by that statistic on the Index page which states: "Most users ever online was 305 on Tue Jan 25, 2005 2:46 am." Is that true? Were there actually 305 people on this board at one time? ...

Elmo16-CL Wide-angle lenses

I have an Elmo 16-CL that I've just started using to project some 16mm--the 50mm lens on it works fine, but I've recently had to move to a smaller studio space and consequently have a much smaller throw distance. I really need to get hold of a wide-angle projection lens for the 16-CL. I think the tw...
