Re: Pulse of Life on Youtube

Yeah, that is really great. I hadn't seen it before either so thanks for the reminder. Makes me wonder why we collectively don't do more things like that--seems so much simpler and frutiful than the complicated "pass the cart" projects. I suppose it's just someone taking the initiative. Bu...

Re: Super8 to HD?? Really??

Seriously people... You are one cranky fucker. Guy Maddin shoots some pretty killer features on Super 8. Of course there are many other things that factor in to him getting those films made and seen, and there is not that much concern with "traditional" aesthetics, but it can be done--suc...

Re: After the arguement

Nice--really got into it. She's beautiful and you did an excellent job of capturing the emotional performance on her face, but I have to say that initial shot of her stumbling into the woods with her helmet still on is brilliant. Liked very much.

Re: Thoughts on Modern Cameras

So if something better than film comes along in a few years -- something absolutely fantastic -- you'll continue to shoot film? That's romantic, but doesn't really make sense. What do you mean when you say "something better than film"? Better in what way? "Easier"? Cheaper? Even...

Everything about this is just so wild--the original format development, the cinematography and images, the stabilization work. A real nice project and great work by all involved. Very exciting. :D

Cool, but a terrible name: "synputer"?

Though I do wish I could read about it.

One of the replies over there: "Probably easier to make a dirty bomb in your garage." Funny.

But you never know.

Re: A new Super 8 camera - possibly

Perhaps when 3D printing lives up to it's promise we'll be able to print new cameras!! While it is feasible that 3D printing might someday be able to be used to produce an entire camera (they're already printing intricate working parts using metal composites), I have already been looking into rapid...

Anyone see this today: Someone in the audience asked the inevitable question: "Including Kodachrome?" Her answer: "Yes, including Kodachrome". Yes, when I saw this (from the original source) I was amazed and excited. Could it actually happen? Probably not, but what a resurrectio...

Re: 8Fest workshop: UltraPan8, Plus-X and the 5.9 mm Angenie

Hey Nicholas, I definitely think it is a cool thing and maybe I was simply asking the wrong question in relation to the potential of UP8. When I was referring to "pull out" I meant of course "pulling back" to get long shot compostions, like the camels in the landscape of Carl's e...

Re: 8Fest workshop: UltraPan8, Plus-X and the 5.9 mm Angenie

Damn, that is interesting. Also like your personal bike film but I think I've yet to see the U8 film that fully takes advantage of what the widescreen image has to offer. And don't you also face a dilemma in this regard: if you were to pull out to take full advantage of the panoramic composition, ar...
