Re: Kodak awakens, new S8 camera announced at CES '16

This is the best news in a million years and I'm really glad Logmar got to work with them on this consumer version; work-well deserved for them!

My main question is whether it runs quiet? It's crystal sync capable and has a mic, but is is really quiet enough for serious sync sound shooting?

Re: sankyo xl420 run with no film?

good idea S8 --- tried that but no dice unfortunately. The machine has a "block of wood" lack of responsiveness to it.
I think this one's time has come.
I have two others that're still running strong, though! Too bad the perfectly good eyecup doesn't fit on my GAF agstomatic

sankyo xl420 run with no film?

Hi folks, I dug out my xl420 the other day and it seems to register new batteries (the light comes on) but when I pull the trigger, the motor does not respond.
The motors in my other cameras run w/o film.
Is my beautiful Sankyo dead?

Re: Logmars ready to purchase at Pro8mm

Hi Lasse, that's good information, fair enough. I was perhaps a bit glib with my comments comparing anything to cell phones, and I certainly wish Logmar the best of luck with the camera.

personal plug: my 16mm feature playing in Seattle

Hi all -- FYI for anyone in the Pacific Northwest (USA) -- "Beach Town," the feature film I've mentioned here before, will be premiering at the Seattle International Film Festival in June. This latest film was shot on a Super 16 Aaton XTR, with pickup shots on a good ol' Bolex -- I've alwa...

Re: Logmars ready to purchase at Pro8mm

I love love love the IDEA of the Logmar but jeez. Their own PR seemed to imply I could just screw in my existing Bolex lenses as-is -- like you can screw in a pentax lens to a pentax mount -- but no, Pro8 has to calibrate the camera with each (?) lens, and that's gonna cost on top of the extra 1k th...

Re: Just starting out

I don't know if you have to go in there in-person to do it, but the NW Film Center in Portland sure has something interesting going on with film, processing and tele prices... It'd be worth talking to them either way. http://www.filmshooting.com/scripts/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25675&hilit=...

Logmar began shipping in Jan, any news?

Logmar's blog says they shipped a handful of cameras in January. Someone should've received and used a camera or two by now. Apologies if this has already been covered in another thread. Any news or footage-to-come?

Re: Right or wrong....ummm

It'd be much more fun to see someone make a lamp into a projector. Or, like we see often here, someone take an old projector and make it into a DIY telecine device.
Just because something has good design doesn't make it a good lamp design.
I sorta regret even contributing to this thread.

Re: Right or wrong....ummm

The sadness of seeing an old camera used for its cheap shell is offset by how unbelievably ugly and useless the thing is.

Re: Good Article

Hey, thanks Carl! (Not to hijack the thread, but...) I didn't end up shooting this one on Super 8 but this forum has been a valuable resource for using and understanding film, that's for sure! "Beach Town" was shot on Super 16 (Kodak 250D and 500T) with my own Bolex H16 reflex and an Aaton...

Re: Good Article

I like the premise that filmmakers should detach from new-gear-fever, which is stoked by the internet selling machine and impossible to avoid, but unless the dvx100 here overlaps with a different dvx100, that camera actually a high-end 3-chip prosumer camera that was a relative Cadillac of its time ...

Re: Have you been to the pictures lately?

Digital projection is a mixed bag, IMHO. Comparing the ideal to the ideal, 35mm projected prints are better in all respects. But I'll never forget dragging some friends to see Herzog's Nosferatu and the print was so ragged that it disrupted the ambience of the film thereby ruining it for them. I lov...
