Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

Well if you don´t believe me, believe Roger. Or better yet, try it yourself. Get a SD transfer from whatever place you want and then compare to your downscaled HD transfer. There really is no point in discussing this further. You are just being silly. Downscale to 1 pixel or whatever, it will sti...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

Ok. So tell me. Tell me why my comparisons are all wrong. It has been stated many times in this thread. Simply because a downscaled HD transfer will not look the same as a native SD transfer. If you use the HD transfer and downscale it to SD in order to compare, then the comparison will not be corr...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

I´m just curious, anyone else here think that 3k or 4k transfers from super8 is the way to go?

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

I have no idea what you are talking about, again. If you can´t described the difference in image detail, as in tell me where you see details in the higher resolution that you cannot see in the lower resolution... Then you can´t tell me the difference, can you? Oh, you can show your nice little...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

As can you. OK. Now I am curious to where I said I did. As far as I can recall, I said I can´t see any difference in image detail, other than the grain being softer on one of your images. Where did I say I could see a difference in image details? Because it is image details that are interesting,...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

If we compare these two scans - which means computing the difference... No it doesen´t mean computing, at least it doesen´t in my book. Here is a huge difference in how we compare things. I look at both transfers with my eyes, and then decide whatever I decide regarding the transfers. If you ...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

Yes, but I'm not doing anything much different from what you are doing. I´m comparing two different transfers to each other, trying to see which transfer will give better results. And I have come to the conclusion that a HD transfer will give you better results if compared to a SD transfer and v...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

EXACTLY. I really do not, at all, understand what you mean. If you want to compare a SD transfer to a HD transfer, you need to use a SD transfer. Why is this so hard to understand? If you play with upscaling and downscaling a image in whatever resolution, that is exactly what you do. You show what ...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

Why? Why is the sky blue? Or is it blue? Who cares. The sky is not blue and a SD transfer will not look the same if compared to a HD transfer that you downscale. If you don´t believe me, order a SD transfer from a company that can deliver SD transfers and upscale it yourself. Compare it to a HD ...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

Here we see it re-sampled at two different resolutions: No, both images in your links seems to be 1920x1080 in resolution, and one seems to be quite soft if you look at the grain. Not sure if there is any difference in image detail. And again, you are using a higher resolution and scaling it back a...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

The way I see it, IF you transfer to HD to begin with... Yeah, I can´t understand why everyone is using a HD transfer as a base that they downscale in order to prove that HD is overkill in resolution. Hell, if it was transferred to HD, why downscale it? If people want to compare something in/fro...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

... should look almost exactly the same scaled down and back up. Oh, but if you are comparing whatever you want with a SD transfer there is no need to downscale the SD transfer. You just need to upscale it. This is how you should compare a SD transfer to a HD transfer. By comparing... a SD transfer...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

So Mattias, you will get SD transfers for your super8 stuff in the future. Correct? there are other issues...720x576 pixel resolution and i get to chose...maybe 700x500 and records........ I´m not asking about more numbers, I am asking about if you are going to get your films transferred to HD o...

Re: Is an HD Super 8 transfer overkill?

I was commenting on the fact that kent apparently hasn't, and more so that he doesn't even understand why it's necessary. Funny thing, I am the only company, and as far as I know it the only person whatsoever , that has produced a testfilm to compare your typical SD and HD transfers and posted the ...
