Thoughts on Modern Cameras
Since people keep beating the horse I couldn't help but chime in. I'm just a DP that has been struggling to pay my bills shooting everything from music videos, documentaries and feature professionally for the last 12 years. So, I write this from that prospective. What I don't like about RED, Sony, P...

Re: I'm Back
Will2 I have never liked AlphaCine. They have always left me wondering why I didn't just send film off instead of picking up. Water spots Shitty Front Desk Girl Trying to tell me I didn't see artifacts in the 35 blow-up Telecine that looks like a mild upgrade from shooting it off the wall. Nah. I'll...

Re: My new feature film
Scot What I'm saying is that having the competition was a bad choice. How was using a competition advantageous? How is not asking graphic designers directly to see their portfolio more of a hassle? It seems to me easier to do a couple of searches online find three or four designers. Grab a coffee wi...

Re: My new feature film
Scottness I love the fact that you go out and shoot these no-budget movies. You seem to always have something in the works. But, it seems like you end up making a lot more work for yourself. Making a contest for a poster/cover without the artist watching the film and choosing the images for them. Co...

Re: What are people working on?
Lunar07 I love it! I would shoot insects all the time as a kid and I even tried to do it with my Aaton. I have a Kilfit 90mm Macro that can get some great stuff. The biggest issue I had was trying to attract and then keep the insects I was trying to shoot. I should have just bought a bag of ladybugs...

Re: What are people working on?
S8Booster, The F500T has been a long time favorite. Unfortunately Fuji Mo-Pic in the USA has decided to go through a middle man which means higher prices. And, the BW model plane stuff looked fun! The thing looks full size on some of the shots when it's in the air. It wouldn't be hard to get some pr...

What are people working on?
As a way to get caught up with y'all I thought I would ask to see what everyone is doing in film/photography. Me. After my shoot in Pakistan a couple years back I made a slight shift to still photography with a focus on bands. I had been shooting for a couple regional glossy rags and some blogs and ...

Re: Girl A
I think that the language comparison is applicable. It has nothing to with how well developed English was in 1600. It is more about whether or not a modern reader/speaker would find it familiar. Using filmic grammar from 100 years ago is just as odd as a 500 year old text. The project wasn't bad but...

Re: Girl A
Not bad. I liked the shots of her on the phone. The lens flare was nice and the movement across her face seemed fitting. The color quality/palette overall was nice but feel like the there could be some contrast and midtone work. Otherwise it felt kind of static. The shots seemed clunky at times. You...

Re: I'm Back
MovieMaker.
Sadly, I think Super8 will outlast 16mm. It would not surprise me if Fuji and Kodak stop 16mm in the next three years. 35mm will hang on for a long time but will be relegated to 'Visual Artists' and directors that insist on the look of film.
Good Luck

Re: This just blew the Digital Bolex project out of the wate
The Digital Bolex. Is still a Bolex. Which is to say that it is not 'professional' camera in the sense that it is off standard for lenses, aks, tripod mounts and lack of standard rails. It would be great if the Alexa wasn't 180k or if Penelope was widely adopted. It would be great to have a camera t...

16mm prints??
What are those??
I haven't had a 16mm print made since 1998. FYI. Those already are gone.
Good Luck

Re: I'm Back
Yeah. I'm getting cheap transfers when I can but it's more about the perceived cost of transfer overall. Working on a low budget feature this August and with a $200,000 production budget the line producer is giving me push back every time I turn in my department budget. Yet, if that same line produc...

Re: This just blew the Digital Bolex project out of the wate
The ergonomics looks like shit. The issue I have with Red, C300/400, DSLR, you name it is that they are blocks that house computers. Not computers housed in a camera. If or when these low cost cameras start to look and feel like a true cine camera then I'll start to pay more attention. As of now I d...
