Re: A trivial projector performance gain. Wonder if Chip Foose would do this?..
Good idea ! It makes sense that the image would improve also maybe in clarity. Just like camera lenses use hoods. Thanks Doug, Yes that does help slightly. Especially in a small brightly painted room which certainly hurts real world performance because just a little light pollution really lights it...

A trivial projector performance gain. Wonder if Chip Foose would do this?..
This is a trivial performance gain that can help some projectors. A lot of projectors have their own body in the way so stray light from the lens clips it and maybe even reflects onto the screen. Most Elmo 16-cl's have a white diecast frame with black plastic on both sides. The stray lens light was ...

Re: The Super 8 Web Portal
Oh, so you're the guy who did "The definitive international guide of movie projectors"? I still need to get my hands on that! So you're going to do a magazine huh? Got enough material for your first few issues?

Re: 16mm footage of Apollo 11's engines
No. Your assumptions are incorrect. Think about it. There is no instantaneous 500fps. It has to safely ramp up to speed and was designed in this manner. A custom and heavy battery was temporarily built as per the cam power specs, 30v and 30a peak available if necessary. The cam drew approx 12-15 am...

Re: 16mm footage of Apollo 11's engines
I strongly suspect that this was shot with Photo-Sonics 1-PL 2 perf pulldown/ twin pin rego 500fps camera. The reflex version was called the Action Master 500. Here it is in action in 2017. First clip is 500fps load test at 30v approx 15 amps. 2nd clip is actual shooting speed used at 200fps, ie ht...

Re: 16mm footage of Apollo 11's engines
I've got that dvd set. I believe it comes from a 3 disc set called "The Mighty Saturns". It also shows footage from inside the tank as the propellant goes down, then suddenly droplets go everywhere as the motors stop and it becomes weightless.

Re: Anyone using Black 2.0 or Vantablack yet?
Label on the bottle says: "Do not use on hot surfaces". What has been your experience with painting projector gates? I've only done the Elmo with 250 watt bulb so far and have run several films. So far it hasn't come off, doesn't seem to have burned. If I touch it, it will reduce the dull...

Anyone using Black 2.0 or Vantablack yet?
I've been a little annoyed by the windowsill effect for a long time. The super 8 Sankyo projectors have it above and below the picture. My Elmo 16-cl had it to the left of the picture but on the Bell and Howells you have to look a little harder to find it. Anyway I'm very happy to say I got rid of a...

Who here has an Elmo 16-cl?
If you have an Elmo 16-cl does yours have the original main knob without any problems? Mine currently has a Radio Shack knob. It's too small for it! I know I can still buy the original one, but is it known to break easily? Do you always have to retighten the screw after watching several films? I've ...

Re: Kodak Ektasound 140 and silent Super 8 film
I'm thinking about getting one once I learn how to cut my own gears. Cut or print? There is a firm here who has specialised on 3D printing gears for ciné equipment :) Of course fixing your own is far more educational but when in a hurry... Oh yeah, who's that? Been trying to find pictures of a d...

Re: Kodak Ektasound 140 and silent Super 8 film
With a silent cartridge, the capstan won't run but the main drive and claw should. HOWEVER....there is an issue with these Ektasound cameras. I used to own one around 17 years ago. It ran for a couple of films and then stopped, there i a nylon or plastic gear which really doesn't last. And once it ...

Re: Kodak Ektasound 140 and silent Super 8 film
I don't have this camera but am thinking about getting a similar one. That gullwing door makes it look exotic doesn't it? Does it run while empty with the door closed?

Re: Meopta Admira 8IIa question
Yes, much better contrast when its projected. It's not so much the neighborhood turning ghetto, it's Seattle's homeless problems spilling into the suburbs. Homes around here are getting so expensive it's wonder anyone can afford one. So sorry that is happening. At least that guy might be reducing t...

Re: Meopta Admira 8IIa question
It was all shot handheld and I'm pretty sure the Meopta scratched the film. The registration and exposure look fine when I watch it on the projector. That's the last time I have Dwayne's scan my film, there must be something wrong with their equipment or the person operating it. They do a good job ...

Re: Meopta Admira 8IIa question
I got back the film that I shot in the Meopta. I had it developed at Dwaynes, they do a great job developing but the scans are not so great. When I first watched the scan I thought there was a serious registration problem with the camera. But then I watched it on a projector (Bolex 18-5) and it loo...
