Re: New 16mm test footage - "dance 1"

The effect in the black and white footage is quite hypnotic. In terms of causes (or technique?) we can say it will be due to 'misloading' the film in some way - perhaps the loop being too tight and/or the pressure plate not being correctly secured. But whatever the reason, the effect (ie. the image...

Re: Logmar S8 footage revealed!

One question I have has more to do with the transfer. It appears rotate or rock back and forth, especially near the end. It's not in the camera original but introduced in the transfer because you can see the gate edge move. Just curious how it was telecined. Otherwise, looks wonderful. Roger I was ...

Re: Need advice:Finally can have any camera I want! WHICH ON

Of the cameras you mention I own the R-10 and the Leicina Special. Both are excellent cameras. But for travel type shooting I'd go with the Leicina. It is lighter, and the handle folds up into the body of the camera making it small and compact. For tripod use the handle stays folded so you get a rea...

Re: LOW "Just Make It Stop" - Chromoflex UltraPan8 - unoffic

This is specially perforated Kodak V3 200D color negative (UltraPan8 2.8 R8) pushed one stop (400 ASA). An internegative 16mm print (50D) was struck but not processed. The single perf 16mm "print" was then hand processed using Richard Touey's Chromoflex technique. I applied random tape sh...

Re: LOW "Just Make It Stop" - Chromoflex UltraPan8 - unoffic

The only thing I'd like to see is a at least some clear images of the band to get a feel for who they are. . Another way to say that is how much control can a filmmaker have over the Chromoflex process? Is it controllable enough so it can be applied to varying situations? Or is it more of a random ...

Very very cool, pretty, beautiful, retro and modern at the same time.

I'm gonna have to try this too.... :)

Re: 8mm movies on iPhone !!!!!!!!!

I have to say that it may sound like I don’t agree with Roger, but I do understand the value of the app for the general public’s use inexpensively providing a means to simulate the mechanical underpinnings of early film technology. At the same time I greatly respect people like Carl wh...

Re: 8mm movies on iPhone !!!!!!!!!

It's not a choice between making a blockbuster or a home movie. Or a fan film. There are all sorts of other things one can do. What is it that you love about the app? Or what is it that irritates you. All of these things can be expressed in cinematic terms. But it takes a bit of effort. Perfect!! Y...

Re: 8mm movies on iPhone !!!!!!!!!

I think, though, that you're missing the intent of the tool. If you have the means to shoot 8mm or even old 35mm and can predictably get the look you want that's conveniently mimicked in this app, then your choice is obvious. But, if you can't, then this app is a cheap and viable alternative. Like ...

Re: 8mm movies on iPhone !!!!!!!!!

Okay, I’m looking at “Running Jumping and Standing Still” paused at 00:56, and I’m telling myself “If somebody lied and told me it was shot on Super8 Etkachrome 100D I think I would have been fooled." Except you need to see if it looks like Etkachrome in all ligh...

Good work! Good coverage/shot selection. Your transfer of color negative is very good.

Re: What camera is this?

Didn't watch the video but most likely the housing is a soundproof case so the photographer can shoot during filming. Not much of a problem now with digital cameras but most likely the photographer on The Book Thief was shooting film. Roger The camera, outside of that case, is also bulky. It made m...

Re: What camera is this?

Well....the camera appears in another behind the scenes film. It is, indeed, a Canon, just like the camera strap says. I can't tell if its a film or digital camera. But I don't know why its in that bulky case.

What camera is this?

Starting at about 10:12 of this behind the scenes film Sophie Nelisse, the then 12 year old lead actress of "The Book Thief" borrows, I believe a still photographers camera to play/experiment with when she is between takes. I think it's a camera inside some kind of large housing. I've neve...
