Re: People say "Look at that old projector" when I show film
That's interesting Carl, do you have a time frame of when all this happened? Was this all before 8mm and even 16mm was invented?

What's the best take up reel slip mechanism on a projector?
I've seen a few different mechanisms to allow the take up reel to slip. I've seen the long springs that go over pulleys, springs on an axle pushing on a pressure plate, I've seen torque converters and those rubber belts that have good wear abilities. So far the only one I have not had trouble with i...

Re: Has anyone filmed slow motion on super 8 without bounce?
Is this a camera where you can slam it from 24 to 54 (or 18 to 54) instantly? Or do you have to stop, flick the switch and start up again? It has options for both. But Ive never used the instant slow motion option where you suddenly change from 18 / 24 to 54 fps. I just start filming at 54 and end ...

That's a good one Carl, The cinema screen is just a big tv screen!.
I hear ya Patrick, I wonder what the guys from IMAX would do if while they filmed someone said "Ah, I see you guys are making some home movies"?

Re: Has anyone filmed slow motion on super 8 without bounce?
Does it leave the first couple of frames or last couple of frames of the scene overexposed because the motor was accelerating up to speed? Hmmm...Ive never noticed that during projection. I'd have to examine the footage frame by frame just to be sure. Is this a camera where you can slam it from 24 ...

Re: Has anyone filmed slow motion on super 8 without bounce?
A number of times, Ive shot at 54 fps with my Canon 1014E and never got any 'bounce.' It always turns out quite steady. Actually, you can see a sample of my slow motion footage (of pedestrians walking in an outdoor mall) in the Pulse Of Life film which can be found somewhere on this site. NIce! Doe...

Re: Has anyone filmed slow motion on super 8 without bounce?
I don't see the footage on youtube being slow motion. When you look at the fumes left by the rocked close to the ground you see that they are moving at a quite normal speed. I have filmed slow motion myself with a Nizo 6080 and got a steady image. I think the problems with the Kodak Super 8 cartrid...

Re: Has anyone filmed slow motion on super 8 without bounce?
Nice, what's a pin-registered film transport? Does that mean pins lock down in sprocket holes while the claw backs up into the next sprocket hole? I didn't know 250 frames per second was possible with super 8. A pin-registered film transport is designed to give greater stability and improved image ...

People say "Look at that old projector" when I show films.
I've been making and showing super 8 films since about 1987 and I'm really having a hard time understanding why even back in 1987 people would say things like "Hahaha, look at that old projector!". At first I thought it was because the film and projector was only silent but when I got a 16...

Re: Has anyone filmed slow motion on super 8 without bounce?
Mekel Engineering SP-1/SP-1R cameras accept Super 8 cartridges, have a pin-registered film transport, and can run at any speed between 10 and 250 frames per second with a standard deviation of .0002 inches frame to frame. The trick is to find one since only 110 were made. Nice, what's a pin-registe...

Has anyone filmed slow motion on super 8 without bounce?
All the slow motion super 8 footage I've ever shot has the footage rock up and down. I thought it was just because my camera wasn't that great but I've been looking at other peoples slow motion super 8 footage such as this and they have the same problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hjXZ2YOPoY Do...
