Intervalometer for Canon 814XL
I've just built this intervalometer for my Canon 814XL Electronic, allowing me to shoot a single frame every 0.5 second, up to one every 60 seconds. I can also set the pulse width, which means I can shoot at 18fps for between 0.5sec - 5sec, then pause for 0.5sec - 60sec before shooting another burst...

Re: Canon 814XL Automatic Drive Belt??
Shortly after posting my original question, a number of other things got in the way of me doing anything with this camera. I'm now (hopefully) going to get a chance to do something about this apparent slippage. I've only put one roll of film through this camera, and I've another unused roll sitting ...

Canon 814XL Automatic Drive Belt??
Having sorted out the problems with my film editor / viewer, I turned my attentions to the fact that about 3/4 of first reel of film had not been exposed(?) My film (Ektachrom 100D) shows the images as being exposed correctly, there then follows about 2" / 50mm of completely clear film, across ...

Re: Setting up a film viewer / editor...
OK, I've done it :D On the film sprocket was a small grub screw. I loaded a film into the editor and loosened the grub screw. I could then hold the sprocket knob and turn the sprocket independently of the knob. This allowed me to watch the frame on the screen as I moved the sprocket. Once correct, I...

Re: Setting up a film viewer / editor...
Unfortunately the Prinz Oxford 400 is only Super-8. There are only two obvious adjustments, a focus knob and a vertical adjustment. There is a 'hidden' adjuster underneath the unit for horizontal adjustment. Both of the latter adjusters just set the picture in the viewer window, neither actually adj...

Re: Setting up a film viewer / editor...
I'll give it a go, thank you. ... I've tried that, but there is no adjustment there. It does have vertical frame adjustment but that just appears to allow you to centre it on the screen - what I seem to need to do is adjust the actual film gate / sprocket hole alignment. So, it's not a problem centr...

Setting up a film viewer / editor...
Hi, I've got a Prinz Oxford 400 film editor / viewer, but it has a framing error that I can't seem to correct (using the normal controls)... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3375/5716867580_2de230cf8b.jpg I'm not worried that the horizontal framing is out as that can be adjusted using the adjuster und...

If you put the frontgrip at the true front you are likely to need a sportsschool membership because holding up this contraption for more then 30 seconds if going to take an effort
Yep, that tripod is looking like the way forward!

DIY Matte Box
I've just finished making my matte box for my Canon 814XL Electronic. It allows me to put gels in front of the lens and provides additional shade from the sun. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5109/5624963666_02916e8317.jpg The next stage is to build a handle that fits on the front rods and a shoulder...

Re: Is DSLR the terminator for super 8 and 16mm?
Nnnnooooo! Not anotherfilm vs digital debate. Haven't we got past this yet? Can't we just accept that they are two different mediums, some people prefer digital, some film. Others don't mind which they use as long as they get the effect they're after. Both have their merits, and disadvantages. You p...

Re: Canon 814XL Electronic... problems?
Yeh! It worked. I bought a little 2.5mm mono plug and shorted out the inner & outer, I know that doesn't sound too wise, but the socket inside the camera would just remake the circuit once the remote is removed. Anyway, with the little plug in place, the camera shutter release now works absolute...

I know it's only been a few years since you posted the question, but just in case it helps someone else...
Record the song (just the audio, MP3 for example), then play the MP3 back whilst filming you lip-sync'ing to the recording you just made.
Hope that helps someone?!
Cheers,
David.

Re: Editing
I'm really glad that someone asked this question - as I was going to ask the same thing! Having just received my new Super-8 camera, part of the appeal was to return to editing film the traditional way, rather than using a computer. Although I don't want to go completely without the use of a compute...

Re: Canon 814XL Electronic... problems?
I knew my logical thinking and diploma in electrical and electronic engineering wasn't wasted - just a shame it took 20+ years to do something useful with it
Hope you get your other cameras fixed Charlie.
Cheers,
David.
