Re: In-camera vs. external meters

You are quite wrong on several points. f/stop calculations are just arbitrary designations of the proportion of light that passes through the lens. It's merely an easy way of mathematically dividing up light in some meaningful way. No, they are not. Fstops ARE a geometrical measurement that is base...

Re: Super 8 Silencer?

Find a good bathmat and use that. Brodsky and Treadway (Little Film) deserve credit for this idea-- they say take the camera to Sears and experiment with rubberized bathmats, then buy one, take it home and cut it up to make a barney to wrap around the camera with tape.

Re: Bolex Multimatic projector ..special cartridges

PCE refuses to answer their eBay email. You have to go to them directly, and even then, they could care less. A few years back they had a warehouse full of the Multimatics-- that projector just never sold when it was new. The 8mm boys grabbed them all for the Hi-Fi lenses, at something like $29 each...

Re: Wireless remote trigger for super 8, single 8 cameras

It's just an on-off switch. That's how they work-- most S8 cameras do this (after about 1970), the ones that lack the old-fashioned wire remote. There's always a voltage on one of the internal leads to the jack. When you plug the remote cord in and power up the camera, if the switch is on, it will c...

Re: In-camera vs. external meters

Nope. And photo books never tell the whole story. They make it sound like f/stops are regular measurements, that were somehow magically discovered. That's where the confusion always arises. What's going on here is that the ratio formula is the same thing as a proportional representation-- f/stop cal...

Re: The end of Single-8 sales was announced

There was an article in an old Movie Maker that talked about people who were filling single 8 cartridges with Kodachrome because they loved K II. I'll try to find it. There were some minor problems but it worked. If there are still 9.5 guys around, then those single 8 "chargers" will work ...

Re: Any Super 8 features going on at the moment?

So what this gets down to is the skill of the person creating the faux Super 8 look versus the risk of having jump and weave. Roger yes, but it's so ..... faux ! Interesting historical note about the jitter registration problem. I was doing some research today and just learned that when Kodak was d...

Re: What happened to single8film.com?

Their mail drop is an art gallery over off of San Fernando Road, near Glendale but actually in about Lincoln Heights, close to downtown L.A. I drove by there awhile back to check them out, and didn't see any activity. The web site is still up so I don't know what's going on. I'll make a point of che...

Re: In-camera vs. external meters

But that still leaves a problem in cases where I want to, or have to, use an external meter. E.g., using E64T or a camera that does not have an internal meter. (I did not mean to say that all my cameras have internal meters.) The entire problem seems to refute those who disparage the use of interna...

There must be thousands of those Russian slitters all over the place-- they were a big deal in the 50s and 60s, lots of ads for them in photographic magazines.

Re: Was a Leather Jacket important in Camera Manuals?

The Canon 1014XLS guy is classically goofy-- he was idiotic the day that camera came out. I bought one in the early 80s and laughed out loud when I saw the manual-- trust me, that must have been some weird European look or something. I don't think anyone in real life ever dressed that way. At least ...

Re: double vs single perf on K-100

The Kodak catalog is online now, they have a picture of wind positions and how to identify, one picture is worth a thousand words on this kind of thing: http://motion.kodak.com/US/en/motion/Products/Product_Information/index.htm Double perf is double perf, there is no a or b wind, that's only single...
