Re: Logmars ready to purchase at Pro8mm

Has development stopped on the current Logmar Super8 camera?

The comments on this youtube video by a Logmar Beta-Tester seems to suggest it has because of loading problems:

Yes, thanks for the heads up. I'm waiting on my optician friend to put a custom lens together for me. We first started talking about using something like this: http://www.edmundoptics.com/onlinecatalog/displayproduct.cfm?productID=2663 My friend might take a month or two but he's trying to make a s...

I googled the Mekel Super8 camera - just 110 of them made with a maximum filming speed of 300fps and a safe maximum of 250fps. It looks like a dinosaur machine and my regards go to the enthusiasts that intend to keep a few of these cameras 'on the road'. If you put two people in a room they will di...

nevertheless.. Magic Alex and others who tried to operate them got stuck in problems due to what i describe. the high fps rate wont do good and espcially with lack of proper maintenance/lubing. iirc Alex had 5 of them and none were in operationable condition but he finally made 1 operational for te...

it appears that the cam was never designed for "nice footage" at 25 fps but firstly stable images and stabler images at higher speeds. without proper and continous servicing the cam mechanical wear should be quite high and the image stability and reliability will eventually suffer. high m...

Nigel is just wrong. People don't want to store movies on hard discs. They want something they can take with them, play in the bedroom (most people don't care a damn for streaming movies within their home)...something they can take to a friend's house....and something that sits in a cupboard in a n...

I don't think it's doing anything to your image other than keeping it centered. Also, note that the analyzed footage appears to be slightly more zoomed in. This is automatically done to keep the image in frame rather than seeing black borders as it recenters the movie. I notice some odd movements a...

Re: Another Idea

The added issue with steady cam for super 8 is that none of the functions on super 8 cameras are auto (except the iris). So, you've really got to have your hand on the focus ring, zoom ring, frame rate button for any effects... etc etc. Steady cam simply sux if you're constantly touching the camera...

You make it yourself. Usually with a bullet cam like this:

Depending on the camera a video tap is doable. For best results, completely replace the viewfinder barrel with a a bullet camera, only possible on a few cameras, or for even better results, a ccd chip above the relex mirror.

THe simplest way is to mount a ccd camera on the viewfinder.

You really need a video tap on the super 8 camera to do proper steadicam work.

Can't look through the viewfinder and operate the steadicam at the same time?

And for true cinematography that has never been beat, watch the 5 seasons of Miami Vice. Truly spectacular. Much of it could be recreated using super 8 cameras today. Not as easily and why would you want to? I don't know but a lot of TV series now are far better shot than they were in the 70's. The...

That's an Iscorama 54 on that Canon 814XL-S -it's mounted using step up rings- it probably vignettes around the 20-30mm focal length, I'd guess.

Re: Rotating Filter?

Great information, and thanks for the warm welcome. A few questions I have left: 1: It sounds like the challenge with the 1014 XL-S is the 67mm filter/lens size. I assume I want an a-lens that is as close to 67mm without going under since this will vignette, correct? The Iscorama is the largest A l...
