Re: Retro-Universal: Advice on computer setup (Mac user)

Hm, I hadn't actually considered how the data workflow would operate. Another consideration beyond just the gigahertz, thanks Roger.

Retro-Universal: Advice on computer setup (Mac user)

Hey Filmshooters, Just picked up my Retro-Universal today! I'm wondering what kind of computer setups people are using with it? My main computer is a 2.6 Gz MacBook Pro with a solid state hard drive. I could set this up with a dual boot to use the PC capture software. But I am considering getting an...

Re: TMTV in Canada

I don't have any experience with this company but they are located in a small town in my province. The photos of their setup is impressive, thanks for the lead on these guys! I'd give them a call or e-mail and find out more. They offer processing of expired film but it sounds like they outsource it,...

Re: Hand processing Tri-X as negative using D76 - Advice Wel

Yes Slashmaster, the R9 bleach is the what I use. I have tried an organic bleach popular with the 'caffenol' crowd. Which IIRC used lime juice. However, you needed a lot of supplies, and exhausted very quickly, so it wasn't very cost/time effective. The pottasium dichromate is a carcenogen. So wear ...

Re: Hand processing Tri-X as negative using D76 - Advice Wel

If you do a forum search you will find a lot more information on this topic. This PDF will be a great start too: http://www.filmlabs.org/docs/toboldlygo.pdf 6 minutes in D-76 is all I do when I've shot the film for negative (1 stop over exposed). I do it at stock and don't dilute. I keep the chemist...

Re: My new 16mm timelapse film online

The exposure length was 1 second long with 1 second intervals. Lens was at a F16 with 2 stops of ND on it. I did some tests with a DSLR prior to shooting.

Re: My new 16mm timelapse film online

The camera was just sitting on the dash board. I put a towel underneath to soften the vibrations a bit and then jury rigged it in place with some bungee cords and my hand was always holding it in place as a safety.

My new 16mm timelapse film online

Hello, after a decent festival run I just made online my film "Forward Biased Condition". https://vimeo.com/67433263 This was made with a Bolex with a Tobin intravalometer on expired Fuji 250D filmstock and then optically printed onto expired Kodak 200T (I've forgotten if it was Vision 1 o...

Re: My new B&W 16mm music video

I've got the 50' model too, I was very lucky to get the 100' three or four years ago, I already had the 50' model and on eBay one day searching for other Lomo products and low and hehold there was a 100' one with a BIN, it was pricey, $200-250 IIRC, but its paid for itself in savings from a lab &...

Re: My new B&W 16mm music video

I use a 100ft Lomo tank. Works pretty good, but occasionally there is a bit of damage, particularly at the head and tail of a roll, which is frame damage that I included in the final cut.

Re: Editing 16mm Film Traditionally?

You can get by with a Zeiss Moviscop viewer and a pair of rewinds. Not as swank as a steenbeck, but a lot easier to ship and store! You should also consider investing in a Ciro guillotine splicer. Its faster and easier to splice and the tape is cheaper than presstapes, however those splicers are pri...

Re: My new B&W 16mm music video

Thx sk360. Ah yes Cherub Rock, such a classic video. I had a $200 budget, although I think cash expenses went to about $250, some things like the beer budget went undocumented ;) The song is about the singer's cat "Mr. Angry" and apart from a tiny super 8 clip, his recent passing prevented...

Re: Our first home brew super8 developing

I've no experience with this particular film but I can offer some general advice. Its been my experience that all old film stock needs to be overexposed at least a full stop, sometimes up 3 stops. This can be done with a combination of in camera and push processing, but since pushing increases grain...

5 - Plus-X
5 - Ektachrome 64
Plus another 20 split between Tri-X, 200T and 50D.

The expired stocks I'm hoarding for a special occasion. Maybe a trip, or a wedding.

Re: My new B&W 16mm music video

Yes, between the grain and the hand processing inconsistency there is far too many random artifacts for the free streaming services to handle. I just used the default export settings for web streaming with Compressor. Preparing video for the web is an art form all in its own.
