Re: JK Sale

I've always dreamed of having one. What a project it would be to blow up all my best 8mm and Super 8 footage to 16mm. (I could reduce my 16mm down, but I'd prefer to have a projectable film master in 16mm.) Probably another project I'd never get the time to get around to doing...

Re: Kodak Film Prices

Lower costs have always been the advantage of S8 and should still be. This post reminds me of when you could buy 100ft rolls of DS8 for $40 and process for the same cost as a 100ft roll of 16mm which was about $12 plus a $3 slitting fee. So $55 for 200ft of S8 processed. That was 2006. But soon aft...

Re: Battery Suggestions

How did you adapt it to an XLR plug? Wade Not sure how to answer that. Depends on the device you are connecting the battery to. If the motor takes a 4 pin XLR plug, then you just match up the (+) battery terminal to the correct pin on the XLR plug and the same with the (-) terminal. Different camer...

Re: Battery Suggestions

Maybe an alternative, pretty cheap. I use one to power my Bolex EM motor and my Tobin motor I use on Bolex cameras. Toss it in some kinda bag with straps and you can easily hang it on a tripod or over your shoulder. https://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Rechargeable-Volt-Battery/700551.uts?product...

Re: Projectors that allow you to remove the gate

Yeah, the 800 series Eumig projectors are great and the removable gate was a big plus for me. You can pick up the earlier ones like an 807 for less money than the later 820 projectors. If you get one make sure the projector advances the film like it is supposed to when running. Way too many Eumig's ...

Re: Kodak Film Prices

Ok, I think you are right Silverdream. I think we should all quit shooting S-8mm. Tell Kodak to stuff it, we will only buy S-8mm film if it is in rolls that we can reload into cartridges (and keep making those cartridges and selling them so cheap) By your logic it seems that any R8mm film stock on a...

Re: Kodak Film Prices

Years ago when Kodak sold 16mm 50ft magazine film in most of their emulsions, it cost almost as much for one 50ft magazine as it did for a 100ft roll of the same film. As I recall, there was a deposit on the metal magazine also. If you wanted to shoot 50ft magazine film, then you had to pay the pric...

Re: Kodak Film Prices

The only way to keep prices down on anything, outside of government subsidizing, is to increase productivity reducing production costs and increasing sales enough to accumulate enough profit to make the endeavor worthwhile. Making film today is none of that. I can easily complain about the cost of a...

Re: Your Experiences Using Expired B/W Film

If you have only one roll of expired, previous storage history unknown, B+W film and the can has not been opened, I would just go ahead and shoot some stuff that is not too important and open up the exposure by 1/2 stop and hope for the best. The film speed drops as the film ages that is why I say t...

Re: The Future of Film

Losing the knowledge of film production due to the passing of experienced users is now being offset by the incredible availability of information on the internet. Those who want to shoot film can learn a great deal and short cut the learning curve like never before. Best advice is to jump in with bo...

Re: Filmo filters?

Phil Nice job adapting to make it work. If you have a problem with dust clinging to the filter, try using an anti-static photo brush to gently clear the dust off and prevent more from gathering. I sometimes use a shot from a can of compressed air (like for computers) being careful to just use as lit...

Re: Filmo filters?

Phil No problem. Find an internal snap-ring (the holes for the pliers are inside of the perimeter) of the right size to fit the camera. Get a gel filter of the type you want and cut out a circle to fit the hole in the camera. I used to have a small plug of round stock of just the right size to use a...

Re: Where can you buy positive 16mm color film?

Wow, no accounting for taste, but that is one thing that has always been so unique about film = different stocks produce much different visual image characteristics. Really, one of the fun things about it all and the reason I bemoan the lack of choices now as compared to the past. I love E100D, but ...

Re: Zeiss splicer

Luigi. The traditional overlap cement splicers are easier to work than the Bolex. They are great for attaching head and tail leaders (a must) to your films. I use a Maier Handcock (they bought the rights to the B+H splicer which is identical) most of the time. It is a professional unit and is a plea...

Re: The return of Ektachrome - CES 2017

Very interesting, shows how difficult it is to bring about a new emulsion in today's environment. No suppliers of needed chemicals is a real shocker, but Kodak, like Ferrania, are persevering in their efforts. I wish them well. I am a very big fan of the different Ektachrome emulsions over the years...
