Re: shooting in dark vision 2 500T any advice

you can have negative film "push processed" which means when the labs process it they leave it in the chemicals a bit longer - you will have to pay extra for this though. if you push process your film by one stop it will be as if the film is 1000asa instead of 500asa, so you can set your l...

Re: Abrams on why Star Trek was shot on film and not video

"Director JJ Abrams wanted to avoid 'that digital phony look' by shooting Star Trek on film."Scot Yet he piled in tons of CG..... I won't go see it because of that. Though he tried to not make it look fake, it ended up being a CG fest... yes that does seem a bit odd. like he started out w...

Re: Dangers of Digital Technology

The guys talking about extremely long preservation of film probably wants to store it in a freezer, in sealed vaccum plastic bags. Now tell me, how on earth will you project this preserved film from the freezer? Run it in the micro whenever you want to see the film? you can actually take ...

Re: Dangers of Digital Technology

i've also heard stories about how new digital feature films have to be stored in data warehouses at great expensive. what happens if the data warehousing company goes out of business or the owner of the film can't afford to pay the storage costs anymore- will they just erase them?

Re: Abrams on why Star Trek was shot on film and not video

maybe he used the "lens flare" to give the film a sense of depth - wonder if they'll be a 3-D version? i can imagine a lot of 3-D film directors jumping onto that bandwaggon!

Re: Dangers of Digital Technology

the moral of the story seems to be chemical/analogue (film, vinyl) formats for originating and archiving digital/electronic formats for manipulation and distributing using both you get the best of both worlds, the flexibility of digital and the long term availability of film, reliance on just one an...

Re: Dangers of Digital Technology

I guess you didn´t read what I wrote: "(or whenever a DVD player is about to be obsolete, record it to the next standard, lika Blu-ray or some hologram-disc or whatever)." :) but will your children, grand-children etc etc be bothered to go to the time/expense of doing that every 10-15 ...

Re: Dangers of Digital Technology

This is so not comparable with playback of a DVD. A DVD player is a bit easier to find than a Doomsday Player. DVD players are easy to find now 'cos we still use them, but in 50 yrs time. can you see the future that well? how many people do you know who still have Betamax video recorders? :r...
