yeah, use printer paper or a piece of foamcore that is matte in texture. you can also play around with slightly gray "screens" to up contrast and make blacks a little darker.

it all depends on what you want. 400' is great because you will minimize short ends so in the long run will save you some money.
it sounds like a nice bolex rex-5 or ebm would be right up your alley.
no you dont need to start with super8 if what you really want to do is shoot 16 then shoot 16.

in his recent films i agree but some of his early stuff was really built around tone and mood, in particular close encounters of the third kind

the problem is that still cameras have no real "standards" so the manufacturers are able to keep pushing the resolution higher and higher. the video industry has to stay within standards, so as of right now 1080i is the highest true HD video format that consumers can get. 1080p is available but as ...

why don't you just get a 16mm camera and put mattes on the top and bottom. the size of the image on the negitive would be the same and would require no mods to the camera. heck if you used super16 you could matte 2.35:1.

I wish that someone would bring out a camera in the jvc or canon form factor, that uses the panasonic or cineform codecs and records to the rev pro disks like the grass valley camera. like a poor mans genesis. :D

ps: the firestore will just record the compressend HDV stream.. like i say, if you're ok with HDV at 720P the JVC a nice choice. if you want DVCPRO
HD at 1080P or 720P up to 60fps, without having to pay for an expensive deck to capture it, the panasonic has it.[/quote]

sorry but you don't know what ...

the jvc camera still looks better to me.
the jvc only does 720P, compresses to HDV and only does standard frame rates.. if you're ok with that it's a fine camera.

not sure who told you that a P2 card takes forever to unload, but you can rent the cards, record directly to a firestore harddisk, or ...

the jvc camera still looks better to me.
the p2 thing is a deal breaker a couple thousand dollars for a card that holds less than 10 minutes of footage. then you have to dump the card and then you get 10 more minutes the dumps take forever and is reported to be very hard to work with. a working set ...

The beaulieu is a great camera but the Leicina Special will be more stable. to be totally honest for most uses you probably won't notice that huge of a difference, but there will be a difference.

Just an anecdote.

A couple of years ago I projected, side by side, the trailer for the second Harry Potter film.

One screen had the trailer from super 8

One screen had the trailer from DVD, using a well set up LCD projector and RGB input from the DVD

No contest. Super 8 won hands down in ...
