Where have you seen some s8 cameras? I am from HK too, I tried finding equipment here (camera and projector) but no luck, the only time I ever found anything related to 8mm was once in Shamshuipo Apliu street, the street vendor had 3 different cams, all in poor condition. I was suprised he had a nizo as well as a Nikon, he was trying to sell them for HK$350 each and you couldn't even see any image in the viewfinder due to the mold and fungus.
I get all my stuff from ebay now.........
Howdy,
Good to hear from a fellow enthusiast from HK!
I got my cameras and projectors from Shum Shui Po and Cat street over in Hong Kong. At Shum Shui Po I look at the vendors that sell junk on the roadside at the other end of Ap Liu street. Have discovered many treasures there including a Beaulieu 5008S with an incredibly clean Angienieux 12 times zoom lens, 2 Canon 814XL-S, a Canon 1014E, many many projectors such as a Bauer 510 Stereo!! Don't ask me how much I paid, you'll be shocked, it was ridiculously low. The vendor at the middle of the street with all his super 8 cameras are all junk and he charges big bucks for them. Over in Cat street look in the junks shops, have got an excellent Nikon R10, a brand new in the box Beaulieu 1008S, a few Eumig projectors for a couple of hundred bucks each. I started collecting them from 1997, and I was going to the two locations whenever I have free time. I would go several times a week sometimes just walking up and down looking for super 8 stuff. I do get gear from Ebay but very few, shipping can cost more than the camera, unless it's a expensive camera.
I now must have about 40 cameras and around 10 projectors. They do show up more often a few years back but now it's rarer. Guess they all have been thrown out. It's good to have the cameras that you only dream about when you were a kid and couldn't afford. No excuses for not making any films:D
