Seems a pity to convert a cine camera, but then again , if it is broken then ............why not?

I dont know the seller, I was just trawling the bay and came across it.

A little like people making original Macintoshes into fish tanks. Makes me cringe a little but at least they are getting some use out of it... as long as they only use ones with broken gears!

The sadness of seeing an old camera used for its cheap shell is offset by how unbelievably ugly and useless the thing is.
Newest feature film: "Lake Street Detective" Check out the trailer here: https://www.grotonbridgefilms.com/lake-street-detective

It'd be much more fun to see someone make a lamp into a projector. Or, like we see often here, someone take an old projector and make it into a DIY telecine device.
Just because something has good design doesn't make it a good lamp design.
I sorta regret even contributing to this thread.

I agree Grainy, I would never turn one of my projectors into an abomination like those above. I guess it's better than throwing it in the trash if it can't be fixed but they could also be used for parts. I just wonder if the person that did this thinks they are completely useless and obsolete so why not turn it into a lamp. I'd hate to think they took a perfectly good working Bolex M8 and turned it into a lamp, those are the best 8mm projectors ever made.

It's interesting recycling technology.

One could argue that a projector, or a camera, just sitting in a display case, is no less a form of recycling.

The interesting thing about re-using something like a projector for digital transfers (or optical printing as I've also done), is that one is recycling more than just the surface of the machine. One is exploiting it's mechanical or kinetic capabilities as well.

What I'd find interesting is anyone extending this idea to other forms of kinetic re-use.

Not sure what.

Grainy kind think the same , what was hand made swiss and cost so much even 15 years ago , what next? A ARRI to go like that would break my heart , No taste or class ?
