Two questions for Moviestuff

Post by Giovanni » Fri May 24, 2002 7:59 pm

Hi Roger,
here you are the two questions:
1) Once I've tried to transfer some S8 footage simply by having it projected on a screen and filming it with a mini-dv camera.
I noticed that the S8 frame ratio was different from the mini-dv camera's one, so that the S8 image was 'cut' in its borders (of course I could have zoomed back, but I would have included part of the screen in the frame...).
Would your Workprinter get round this inconvenience?
2) Are you John Milius' twin brother?

Thanks in advance,
Giovanni

Well, the super 8 frame has a different aspect ratio than the video frame. If you pull back so that the video frame touches the film frame top and bottom, you will definately lose information on the left and right. On the other hand, if you include the information on the left and right, then you will end up with black borders at the top and bottom of the screen. Sort of a poor man's letterbox effect. The WorkPrinter and CineMate units both have enlarged gates so that you can see the entire frame and crop as you wish, so in that sense it would help but nothing will make up for the difference in aspect ratios.
