Re: Alphacine auction tomorrow

Ah, too bad http://processreversal.org/ is in NY -- it looks like they've got a very cool mission, we'd love to have them here in Seattle.

Super 8 film "The Last City in the East" now on DVD

Hi folks, hope you don't mind a quick plug for my groovy little film "The Last City in The East", which was shot on TriX Super8 and is now available on DVD via Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Last-City-East-Paul-Dickinson/dp/B00H4P7I7M/ The film is about underground poet Paul Dickinson, who returns to...

Re: Alphacine auction tomorrow

The optical printer apparently had been stripped of many useful parts like film gates. So someone picked over their equipment for a possible digital film service. Maybe Lightpress bought their film cleaner? Their main business is archival work and a the lack of local film cleaning would be problema...

Re: Digital Bolex

"Digital Bolex" doesn't even make sense. It's like saying "digital vinyl records". Here's yet another analogy: I'm sure there are synthesizer patches that produce a Mighty Wurlitzer sound, any maybe to many they seem really accurate, but *no one* would confuse the machine itself with an actual Might...

Software that detects/separates frames?

Hi folks -- does anyone know of software that works with FCP/premiere that can take a .mov file, detect the frames, and separate each frame into a .jpg or similar image file? The idea is to make stills of movie film - but without the endless cutting/saving.
thanks

Re: Kinograph Update

This is cool! Here's a 18 minute video with the guy doing a demonstration for some folks in the US, goes through a lot of detail.

Re: regular 8 finished.

tscan, agreed. Alpha is/was my local lab but I used Spectra once for Super 8 processing and scanning, and they really nailed it.
I'm looking forward to seeing more from them and they are totally committed (and carry reg 8, to the original point).

Re: regular 8 finished.

I called AlphaCine this afternoon to see where my film was. The good news is it shipped. The bad news is they are going to stop all film processing at the end of the month. I have always had great results with them and a fast turnaround so I will be sad to see them stop processing. ALL film process...

Re: Caffenol developer tests

Very interesting! I've been thinking about caffinol since I heard of it 10 years ago but haven't had the chance/courage to try with super 8 yet. Can you explain how you used the bucket method -- did all the film get exposed this way or was some neglected/underexposed? What blend of caffinol did you ...
